It had been six months since the fateful night that Marlena was shot and killed up on the roof of the prison. Bo had told the officers not to shoot her, but in a cruel twist of fate they misunderstood his order and shot Marlena. The bullet ripping into her body and shredding her heart. She would collapse on the floor as a crimson pool accumulated around her. All of this happened in front of John who had been trying to negotiate with the Salem PD It was now obvious that his attempts had proven to be of no use.
“You fucking bastard!” John yelled at Bo.
Bo looked at the husband of Marlena a.k.a. the Salem Stalker in the eyes and simply said, “The loss of your wife is no match for the loss of all the family and friends we lost.”
John just looked at one his former friends in the eyes, and began cry. “For God’s sakes then, please call an ambulance!”
Bo called an ambulance and in 3 minutes it arrived at the scene. A few of the officer’s brought Marlena down on a stretcher and brought her to John. John took one look at his wife and realized that she wouldn’t make it. He raced to her side in order to say his last goodbyes.
“Doc, oh Doc I’m so sorry!” John cried as he took Marlena’s hand into his.
Marlena turned her head to face her husband. A task that proved to be difficult for her. She looked at the tears in John’s eyes and began crying as well. “John I don’t believe I’m going to make it.” She choked out the words.
“You have to stay strong Marlena, for me and your daughters.” John pleaded with his wife.
“John, I love you. I also love Sami and Belle, but my time on earth is fading away. This is my execution John. My punishment for killing all those people. I’m ready to face the ultimate judgement. Please tell Sami and Belle that I love them and I will always love them.” She cried.
“I will Doc. They will know.” John said between whimpers. He squeezed Marlena’s hand.
“And John?” Marlena whispered as her life began to slip away.
“Yes Doc?” John said leaning closer to Marlena.
“I love you.” She whispered her final breath. Her soul then exited from her body, and her now still body collapsed.
Six months had now passed, and the residents of Salem were slowly getting over the long term shock of losing Marlena. Belle had broken up with Shawn seeing as how he would always blame her for Alice’s death. She was now dating Phillip. Sami and Lucas were going steady despite Kate’s constant bitching and badmouthing of Sami. All things aside everything was going alright.
Everything that is except for John. He had taken the death of his wife deeply and could barely function anymore. She was his whole entire life, and now that she was gone John felt no reason to truly live. His family and friends would try to comfort him, but to no avail.
One night John went to bed and prepared to fall asleep. Before he did though he felt a strange presence in the room. The air began to smell of Marlena’s perfume. Soon he felt something caressing his face. He opened his eyes to see his wife laying next to him. “Doc? Is that really you?” John asked.
“Yes it really is me. Marlena said with a smile on her lips.
John could do nothing more that to lay on the bed with a bewildered smile on his face. He reached up to touch her face, and found to his shock that he was able to touch her face. “Oh, Marlena is this really you? Are you really alive? You’re not Hattie are you?” John asked still shocked.
Marlena just smirked at her husband and laughed, “Of course it’s really me. If I were Hattie would I enjoy doing this?” Marlena then kissed John fully on the mouth.
John took this as a sign as he began to kiss his beloved Doc back. He pried her mouth open with his tongue. She accepted and opened her mouth slightly allowing John’s tongue to enter her mouth. Soon the two were kissing with an intense fervor that no two mortals could have ever matched. Marlena soon pulled away from John, and began kissing his neck. She could feel him growing hotter for her at every passing moment. John wrapped his arms around her waist and turned her over. He resumed to kissing her once more.
“Is this real?” John said to himself. “Or is this another dream?”
Marlena looked at John and grinned “John if this really were a dream you wouldn’t be feeling what you are feeling now. You wouldn’t be touching me now. In fact if I weren’t here right now in flesh and blood you couldn’t be touching me now.”
“I know Marlena. I just can’t shake the feeling that pretty soon you’re going to leave me again. Leave me like you did six months ago.” John whispered.
“John, I’m sorry but I will have to leave you soon. I’m so sorry John.” Marlena said to her husband with tears in her eyes.
John looked at her in the eyes bewildered, “You can’t mean this! You’re leaving me again?” John cried out, obviously hurt.
“John I was only granted to spend a few hours here on earth. I’m sorry John, let’s just make these last two hours special. OK?” Marlena said softly.
John nodded his head in agreement. She would have to leave soon, and there was no point in arguing with her. The best thing to do now was to just enjoy this moment while it lasted. The two looked at each other in the eyes and soon began to kiss with a passion unknown to anyone. The two slipped under the covers, and commenced themselves to their lovemaking.
….later.
The two had now finished exalting themselves at long last. John rolled off of his wife, and looked up at the ceiling. Marlena brought herself closer to John and rested her head on top of his chest. John looked down at Marlena and smiled in content. This smile didn’t last long. John knew that Marlena would have to leave soon.
Noticing the change in demeanor Marlena positioned herself up and above John. “What’s wrong?” She asked.
John let out a sigh, then turned to his wife. “Doc?” He begin, “Where, are you?”
“I’m here with you of course.” Marlena stated, somewhat confused.
“No, I mean the after life. Are you in Heaven, or Hell?” John asked once more.
Marlena looked at her husband once more, and then answered with tears in her eyes. “I am nowhere John. You’re my other half, and without you I cannot enter Heaven, or Hell.”
Hearing these words, John tensed up and almost begin to choke. He couldn’t bear the fact of his beloved wife wandering around the world aimlessly. He decided to ask one more thing. “Doc, you said you were only granted a couple of hours here on Earth? How…?”
“What I meant was, was that I asked to be a physical embodiment. When my time is over, I will fade away John.” Marlena told her husband, trying not to cry.
John looked away from Marlena trying not to cry. It was one thing that his wife had to leave, but knowing that she was doomed to wander the earth until he died was too much for John to handle. He would have cried right there on the spot, but he didn’t want his wife to become upset. Instead he choked back the tears that were to come, and held his wife one last final time. Finally it was time for her to leave. He could feel his wife fading into nothingness.
“Goodbye John, my soul mate, my love.” Marlena said as she faded away from the physical plane.
“Oh Go-od!! Nooo!!” John fell to the floor sobs racking his body.
There was nothing that John could do. His wife was not only gone, but was in neither Heaven or Hell. He didn’t want his wife in Hell, but the thought of her wandering the earth was too heartbreaking for him. He knew that he was Marlena’s other half, and the only way she could have peace was when he died. He thought about committing suicide, but then thought that it just wouldn’t be worth it.
After lying awake for hours John finally fell asleep. His last thoughts were that maybe, just maybe death would invite itself in, and take him away. Morning came, and John woke up realizing that death would not take him today. Heart broken he got dressed, not bothering to shower. Why bother? He thought to himself, everything was now useless. Everything around him was dead. He finally put on his jacket, picked up his car keys and another item, and headed to Basic Black. Once he arrived he ran into Kate.
Upon seeing John, Kate knew something was wrong. He looked even worse than when his wife first died. If this we’re the case then something must have been seriously wrong. Kate stepped towards John and looked at him, before asking. “John, is there something the matter?”
John looked at Kate, and begin to ponder telling her about Marlena. He finally decided that he could trust Kate enough to tell her. “Something happened last night, I found out something terrible.”
“What did you find out? Did Sami do something to you? That bitch…” Kate begin to rant before being cutoff by John.
“No, it has nothing to do with Sami. It’s about Marlena.” John explained.
Kate looked at John skeptical, before sitting down. John followed suit, and asked “You think I’m crazy?”
Kate looked at her friend with concern in her eyes. “John, Marlena’s been dead for six months now. I thought you had been healing, but it doesn’t seem that way.”
“Last night Marlena came to me for a few hours. When I asked her where she was she told me that she had to wander the earth until I died. She can’t enter Heaven or Hell until I complete her.” John told Kate, choking back those words.
Kate watched as her friend tried his damnest not to cry. She could tell however that his attempts were futile. She watched as a trickle of blood seeped from John’s lower lip down his chin. Kate handed John a tissue, and watched as he wiped away the blood. “You need to cry John.” She finally told him.
John took the tissue from Kate and proceeded to wipe his eyes. “Thanks Kate.” He cried.
Kate watched as her friend completely broke down. She observed as John clutched his chest in pain, and completely broke down in tears. With his free hand John clutched the end of the table and continued to cry. After a moment Kate wrapped her hand around his. “Is there anything I can do John?”
John looked at Kate. At this time he had tears flowing from his eyes, and snot dripping from his nose. He grabbed a tissue and blew his nose on the soft white substance. He looked at Kate once more with a hurt look in his eyes. Kate rose from her seat and went to John who was still sitting in his chair. She knelt down to hug him, in which John returned the gesture weakly. He rose from his seat, and said “I need to wash my face, I’ll be back.”
“Alright, take your time.” Kate answered.
John walked to the men’s room and went to the sink to wash his tear stained face. He looked at his reflection in the mirror for awhile. His thoughts were still on Marlena, but he had now come to entertain another thought. The thought of taking his own life had now crept into his mind, and the more John thought about it the more he wanted to do it. He reached into his pocket and grabbed the object that he had brought from home. Nestled in his right hand was a small blade, sharp enough to ensue a deep cut at the first slice.
John held the blade up to the light and observed its beauty. How quaint that soon it would be garnished with his blood, John thought to himself. He brought it back down and observed it some more. If he were quick and deep enough he would die soon. Any mistakes however and he might get caught. John looked at himself in the mirror once more and thought about the impending consequences of his actions. He had two children who needed him. His company needed him, he was needed by so many people.
Alas though he was also needed by Marlena, and he needed her. Without the other half the two were weak and useless. Once he was dead then he would be at peace with Marlena. John looked away from the mirror, and prayed a last prayer. After all was done, he took the blade and begin to quickly slash his wrists. First his left wrist; he brought down the blade and made three deep slices in his wrist. He gritted his teeth in pain as he saw his blood pouring from his wounds. He then made three cuts in his right wrist, and watched as the blood poured from those new wounds.
John was now becoming weak, and soon collapsed on the tile floor. He landed on his front side, cushioning the impact for his head with his left hand. The blood was dripping onto the tiles, sure to stain their imperfect beauty. John was becoming increasingly weaker at every passing moment.
Meanwhile, Kate was beginning to wonder what the hell was taking John so damn long. “I better go check on him.” She said to herself.
After looking to see that no one was around Kate stepped in the men’s room and screamed. What she saw on the floor made her stomach turn. John was lying face down on the tile floor. His right hand under his head, and his left hand outstretched to his side. His wounds were still fresh, but the blood flow had slowed down. Still, as witnessed by the amount of blood on the floor, he had already lost a lot of blood.
John watched as Kate begin to frantic and call for help. He was too weak to speak, or move. Soon he saw a faint bright light, and a voice calling him. He was now between the living and the dead. He could hear Kate calling 911, and crying. He could see the people filing into the restroom and witness their reactions.
Belle and Phillip came in first. Upon first seeing her dying father on the ground Belle begin to cry against Phillips chest. Phillip consoled her, as Shawn looked on with a pensive longing in his eyes.
The world of the living was beginning to fade more rapidly, and the light was becoming stronger. The voice was sounding more clear. It was definitely Marlena who was speaking to him. He watched as Sami begin to cry and Brady tried to hold back his tears. John was unable to hear what they were saying. This was now like a silent movie, only it was real.
Soon the light grew brighter and enveloped his entire soul. John’s body gave out one last exhale before he died. His friends and family witnessed in shock as the window curtain flapped for a brief second as if moved by a strong gust of wind.
John was now in the next life. He looked around to see himself near a lake. It was night time, just like in the physical plane. John looked at the sky and noticed that it was a pure dark blue in color and the moon and stars were lighting up this realm. The grass below him was thick and green, and soft to the touch. To his left were rolling green hills with fruit trees scattered around. In front of him was a lake, large and filled with clear water. The moon and stars reflected off of the mirror like water.
John went to the shore, and looked at himself in the lake. He was wearing a silk white shirt, and gray pants with black shoes. He looked as good as ever. He knelt down and proceeded to drink from the lake. This water is fantastic! John thought to himself as he continued drinking from the source. After he was done quenching his thirst he saw another figure appear in the rippled mirror. Behind him was an angel, with blonde hair, and hazel eyes. John slowly turned around, and then practically yelled out in ecstasy.
Standing in front of him now was Marlena. She looked even more beautiful than ever before. Her golden blonde hair accenting her perfect face, and hazel eyes twinkling with glee. Her beautiful smile was lighting up the night for John.
“Oh, Doc! I thought I’d never see you again!!” John cried out in shock and he caressed Marlena’s face.
“You came to me John. You’ve completed me!” Marlena cried out in happiness as she touched John’s face.
With a longing intensity the two finally kissed with a long deep seeded passion. They had been brought together in the physical realm and then split apart, and now they had reunited in the spiritual realm. This time however nothing could separate them. They were now complete, and one with each other in a spiritual state of bless.
