Captain John Black was in need of a Psychiatrist for the Salem Police Department. Commander Abe Carver had recommended Dr. Marlena Evans the previous week.
“Abe enters John’s office the following week and says, “John, I have set up an appointment for you to speak with Dr. Evans today.”
John just nods his head and continues working. When Marlena arrives at the station she meets with Abe in the squad room.
“Abe and Marlena make their way to John’s office. Abe sees that John’s blinds are closed. Abe stops at Sheila’s desk asking her to buzz John to let him know he’s here with Dr. Evans.
Sheila buzzes John’s phone saying, “Sir! Commander Carver is here with Dr Evans.”
“Send them in”, John replies. “Hey John, I wanted to introduce you to Dr. Marlena Evans. I spoke to you about her last week for the Psychiatrist position here at the precinct.”
John says, “Yes, I remember you mentioning her name.” John comes from behind the desk to properly greet Marlena. “Hi, I’m Captain Black but may call me John.” Marlena replies by saying, “Hi, I’m Dr. Marlena Evans, It’s nice to meet you, Sir.”
John motions towards the chair in front of his desk and says to her “Please have a seat. May I offer you something to drink, a glass of water or coffee?” Marlena takes a seat in the chair that John had motioned towards, setting her briefcase down beside her. “A glass of water would be fine,” she replies kindly.
John hands her the glass of water then takes a seat behind his desk. John looks at Marlena sitting across from him and smiles. He is blown away by how beautiful she looks.
“Abe tells me you’re a full time Psychiatrist at University Hospital.” Marlena replies, “Yes I am.”
As she begins to tell John about her background, Abe interrupts saying, “John, I’m going to go back to my office and let you and Marlena talk. I think we have the best candidate here in Marlena.”
Before leaving out the door Abe turns to Marlena and says “Please stop by my office on your way out.” Marlena says, “Sure Abe, Thanks for everything.” After Abe leaves the office, John turns back towards Marlena and says “Where were we?”
“I was about to tell you about my background,” Marlena replies. Just as Marlena begins to speak, the phone rings. it’s Sheila on the other end. John says, “Yes! Black here.” Sheila says, “Sir, you have Mr. Scott on Line 1. He says it’s important.” John apologizes to Marlena for the interruption.
John picks up the phone and informs the caller that he’s in the middle of a meeting and that he will call him back as soon as he’s done with his meeting. John then buzzes Sheila telling her to hold all of his calls until he’s done.
Sheila replies, “Will do, Sir!” John replaces the phone on the receiver. “Sorry for the interruption. Now back to your background Dr. Evans,” John says. Marlena proceeds to tell John her credentials and that she has been in the psychiatry field for 20 years. She explains that with her experience, she feels as though she will be the best fit for the position.
John nods and says, “I’d have to agree with you. Commander Carver thinks very highly of you. Let me ask you this, when will you be available to start?” “I’ve checked my calendar and I’m available to start tomorrow if you need me to,” Marlena replies.” “Yes, that would be great.
Dr. Evans. However, I would like to go over some pointers with you in reference to the position over lunch, if that is okay with you?” Marlena replies, “Yes, that would be fine.” John says, “Great! Are you okay with going to the Brady Pub?”
“Sure, that would be fine.” John gets up to grab his jacket and they head out to the Pub to grab a bite to eat. As they are leaving John tells Sheila that he & Marlena are going to lunch and that he’ll be back in an hour. “You both have a great lunch, Sheila says smiling. They both reply, “Thank You!”They arrive at the Pub and Caroline comes over to the table to greet them.
“Hi John, Marlena. What a surprise to see you both here together. What may I get for you two today?” Marlena says, “May I have a bowl of your famous clam chowder?” Caroline replies, “Why Sure!” “I’ll have the same,” John says.
“Two clam chowders coming right up. Would you like anything to drink with that? Caroline asks.
They both say a glass of water would be fine. Caroline says, “I’ll be right back with your water.”
Not too long after, Caroline returns to the table with the two glasses of water. As John and Marlena are waiting on their food, John begins to tell Marlena what the SPD wants in regards to her new position.
“You will need to evaluate each prisoner and witness in reference to their mental state to either stand trial or testify.”
Marlena retrieves a pad of paper and pen from her briefcase to jot down a few notes as John continues to explain what is required.
Marlena looks up and sees that Caroline is headed to the table with two clam chowders. She puts the pad of paper back in her briefcase until they finish eating.
John and Marlena chat while they are eating, enjoying each other’s company. As the time is ticking away, John looks at his watch and realizes that he had told Sheila he would be back in an hour.
He informs Marlena that he has to get back to the office and quickly pays the bill.
Since he and Marlena drove to the pub together, he plans to drop Marlena off at her car in the parking structure.
When they reach her car, John turns to Marlena and says, “Dr. Evans, Do you have any questions for me before you leave?” “I have a few but I’ll jot them down tonight and have them ready for you tomorrow, if that’s alright with you. What time shall I start in the morning?” John replies, “Can you please be here by 8am?” “Yes, See you at 8am.
Thank You for lunch John,” Marlena replies before getting out of his car and walking to her own.
John watches her as she walks to her car, smiling.
CHAPTER 2
The next morning Marlena arrives to work at 7:30am. She’s sitting in her car going over her notes when someone taps on her window.
She looks up from her pad of paper to see John standing there.
“Good Morning Dr. Evans,” John says, smiling at her. “Good Morning John. And it’s Marlena, please?”
Marlena says, returning the smile. John asks, “Would like to go into work together so we can go over your notes and any questions you may have for me?” Marlena replies, “Sure that would be fine.”
Marlena then grabs her briefcase, purse, and jacket then exits the car and sets her alarm. They arrive at the elevator, John ushers her inside first then he steps inside. As the door closes to the elevator, it jolts really hard causing Marlena to lose her footing and she falls into John’s arms.
He helps her to her feet then asks if she’s okay? Marlena replies with embarrassment, “I’m okay.” The elevator reaches the first floor and they get off. John and Marlena walk down the hall to John’s office.
John pulls out Marlena’s notes and questions and goes over them. Her first question is. “Are we sharing an office?” John replies, “Just until your office is ready.”
Marlena’s second question is, “Am I on-call as needed?” John says, “Let me go over that with Commander Carver then I’ll get back to you.
In the meantime, let me give you a tour of the station so you can get familiar with where everything is.” Marlena replies, “Yes. That would be great.”
They start with the interrogation room first. John explains to her that this is where she’ll be conducting her interviews of the prisoners and witnesses until her office is ready.
Then they head down the hall to the refreshment center. “This is where the Officer’s have lunch and you can also grab something from the vending machines,” he informs her.
He then takes her downstairs to the evidence room explaining, “This is where all of our files are kept from previous cases and also evidence from current cases. We have Office Johnson here if you need to check out anything. You must show ID and sign in/out anything you take from this area.” Marlena nods her understanding.
They then head back upstairs to where her office will be. “Your office should be ready by the end of next week. Ihope that won’t inconvenience you any. Do you have any more questions?” Marlena replies, “No, you’ve appeared to have answered all my questions. Thank You so much John for the tour.” “You’re Welcome.
If you would like, I can have Sheila bring you some files to my office so you can read through the cases you’ll be working on.” “That would be fine. Thank you.” John buzzes Sheila. “Can you please bring that box of files from under Officer Bingham desk to my office?”
Sheila replies, “Yes Sir.” Sheila retrieves the files and then knocks at the door to hand the files to Dr. Evans. As Marlena is going through the files, a name on one of the files catches her eye, Eugene Bradford. She opens the file to begin reading. She comes across the reason as to why he was incarcerated, attempted murder. She looks up at John and says, “I know this person from years ago. He was a patient of mine.”
John says, “Really!” She reads on and it says he attempted to kill his wife. Marlena could not believe what she was reading.
Just as she was getting well into reading the file her cell phone rings. Dr. Horton is on the other line. “Good Morning Dr. Horton, How may I help you?” “Marlena. We have an emergency. Can you please come to the hospital? A patient is in need of an immediate evaluation.”
“Of course, Dr. Horton. I’ll be right there.”
Marlena shoves Eugene files back in the box. Marlena then turns to John saying, “I have to go. There’s an emergency at the hospital.”
John offers to carry the box of files to Marlena’s car for her. John says to Marlena, “Will I see you tomorrow?” Marlena replies, “I’ll let you know later this evening.”
John places the box of files into her car and then watches her drive off, before heading back to his office.
CHAPTER 3
While at the hospital, Marlena checks in at the nurses station. The nurse at the desk advises her that the patient is in Room E123. Marlena heads down to Room E123. As she looks through the window on the door she sees a familiar face. She walks into the room and sees Mrs. McFlurry.
She walks in the room saying, “Mrs. McFlurry. What brings you in today?”
“Oh Dr. Evans. I’m so worried about Dave. He found out some very disturbing news about Jr. I’m so afraid of what he might do. It’s all my fault,” Mrs. McFlurry answers while tears are cascading down her cheeks. “What type of news did he hear?”
Marlena gently asks while handing her a box of tissues. Mrs. McFlurry replies that Jr. isn’t his son. Marlena couldn’t believe what she was hearing either. “Dr. Evans, I feel so ashamed. I never wanted this secret to come out. I didn’t know where else to turn. Can we talk in your office?” Marlena replies, “Sure we can.”
Marlena and Mrs. McFlurry head down to Marlena’s office to talk some more. After about 30 minutes, Marlena asks Mrs. McFlurry, “Do you feel well enough to go home now?”
Mrs. McFlurry replies, “Yes. I should be okay. I’m sorry to have taken up so much of your time.” Marlena says, “Oh No! No worries. If you need to talk to me some more you can call me anytime.”
After Mrs. McFlurry leaves, Marlena looks at the clock and it is well past time to go home. Marlena locks up her office then heads for home. Marlena walks in the house, heads up stairs to get undressed and the phone rings.
“Hello!” John answers saying “Dr. Evans, I have the answer you were looking for regarding if you’ll be on call or not.” Marlena says, “Okay!, Go ahead, I’m listening.” John replies, “Did I catch you at a bad time?” Marlena says, “No, you’re fine.”
John proceeds to tell her that they were looking to have her come into the office twice a week. “Will that be a problem for you?” Marlena says, “No. That works out fine. What days are you speaking of?” John says, “Thursday and Friday.”
Marlena says, “Okay, I got it. I’ll see you on Thursday. By the Way John, you can call me Marlena, you know?. You have a nice evening and Thanks for the call.” John replies, Thanks Marlena. You have a nice evening as well. Goodbye.”
CHAPTER 4
Marlena is awakened by her alarm clock. She struggles to open her eyes. She has a massive headache.
Marlena rolls over to reach for her cell phone to call Tom Horton to say she is going to be late. Tom says to Marlena, “No Rush Darling, take your time. I hope that you feel better.”
Marlena lays back down to rest her eyes. Little did she know she fell into a deep sleep. The alarm on her phone rang and scared her. She said to herself, I am really late.
She called Tom again and said, “I won’t be in today. Can you have Gretchen cancel all of my appointments?”
Dr. Horton asks, “Are you okay, Darling?” Marlena replies, “No. I have a really bad headache.” Dr. Horton says, “I will come by and check on you later.” Marlena says softly, “You really don’t need to do that Dr. Horton, I’ll be fine.” Dr. Horton says, “I’ll stop by on my way home.
You get yourself some rest now.” Marlena replies, “Okay, Dr. Horton, I’ll see you later. Can you please use the spare key when you get here?” Dr. Horton says, “Yes, I sure will. See you later.”
Later that day Dr. Horton let’s himself into Marlena’s house and finds her on the couch with the cover over her. “Marlena, sweetheart are you awake?” Marlena replies, “Yes, I’m just resting my eyes.” Dr. Horton asks Marlena to sit up so he could examine her. Marlena sits up on the couch so Dr. Horton could check her vital signs. Everything is all clear.
“Marlena, looks like you just need some stronger medicine to get rid of that nasty headache. I’m going to prescribe you some Imitrex for your migraine and I want you to drink some camomile tea to help you sleep. I’m going to leave you to get you some rest. I wouldn’t want you to miss your first day of work at the Police Station.”
Marlena replies, “Thank You so much Dr. Horton for stopping by to check on me.” Dr. Horton replies, “You’re Welcome Darling. Feel better. If you don’t, please don’t hesitate to call me.” “I won’t, Dr. Horton. Thank you so much.”
Tom pats her hand and then lets himself out.
CHAPTER 5
Marlena arrives at the police station to start work the next morning. She parks her car on the second floor of the parking structure. She was looking around to see if she saw John anywhere so they could walk in together.
As she continued walking to the elevator, she noticed him in the distance. He appeared to be distracted, so she just kept on walking inside the elevator. As the doors were closing, she heard John call out her name. “Marlena hold the elevator please.”
John saw the doors closing, then said to himself, I guess I’ll go up the stairs then. Just as John started up the stairs, he heard Marlena say “John, Where are you?” John replies, “Oh Thank You. I thought you didn’t hear me.
Good Morning Beautiful, How are you? I’m sorry, Good Morning Marlena! How are you?” John blushes slightly at his slip of the tongue. Marlena replies, “I’m fine and you?” pretending not to have noticed that he called her beautiful as to not embarrass him further.
John replies, “I’m just peachy,” he replies, looking at his feet. Marlena asks, “Is everything okay?” John says, “Yes, everything is okay.” Marlena says, “Are you sure?” John says “Yes!” Marlena lets it drop. “If you want to talk about it, I’m all ears.” John says, “Thank You.”
He and Marlena are inside the police station when he receives a call from Commander Carver. “I need to see you in my office now.”
John opens his office for Marlena, then says “I’ll be back.”
Marlena goes inside the office and sees flowers on her desk. She reads the card and it says Welcome aboard! Looking forward to working with you. Sincerely, John.
John returns to see Marlena admiring her flowers. Marlena says, “Thank You for the beautiful flowers.” He says, “I hear those are your favorite.” Marlena says, “Yes! They are.” “Well, I’m glad you love them,” John replies. “John!” Marlena calls out to him. “May I ask you a question?” John replies, “Sure you can.”
Marlena asks, “How long does Eugene have behind bars?” John says, “He was sentenced to 15 years.” “Since his file is in this box, does that mean I’ll be assigned to his case?”
John says, “Yes. That’s highly likely.” Marlena replies, “So, how does this work?”
“It basically depends on the appointed Judge to assign the prisoner a Psychiatrist. In Eugene’s case that is highly likely to occur. So basically you determine if he’s eligible to stand trial.”
The phone rings and Marlena is summoned to Commander Carver’s office along with John to discuss Eugene Bradford’s case.
Abe received a letter from the Judge in regards to Eugene Bradford qualifying for Psych evaluation by Marlena. Due to Eugene Bradford being held in Solitary Confinement he had to be escorted to the interrogation by heavy armed guards.
Due to Doctor-Patient confidentiality no one was allowed inside of the interrogation room with Eugene and Marlena. However, Commander Carver and John were posted outside the interrogation room door in case Eugene got violent.
Eugene was then chained to the table and chair for Marlena’s protection.
The interview took about 30 minutes to conduct. Once the interview was completed Marlena signaled to the guard that she was completed. Commander Carver, Marlena and John walk back to John’s office and Eugene is escorted back to his cell.
Marlena sat quietly in John’s office and completed her paperwork on Eugene’s evaluation and turned her report into Abe for him and John to go over and submit it to the Judge. Marlena barely said a word to John when she returned to his office. John could tell she was bothered by something but he did not press her to talk about what was bothering her. He left the floor open for her to speak on it when she was ready.
He thought to himself, When she was ready to talk he would be there for her. It was almost time to go and Marlena said “John, am I free to go? I really need to get home.” John replies, “Sure you may leave. Have a Good evening, Marlena.” Marlena replies, “You have a good evening as well, See you tomorrow.”
The next morning Marlena arrived to work early to go over her notes from Eugene’s evaluation. A few minutes after Marlena arrives, John walks in the door with breakfast.
“Good Morning, Doc! How are we feeling this morning?”
“I’m doing fine,” Marlena replies. John says, “I brought you some breakfast my Dear.”
“Why Thank You. How did you know I was hungry?” Marlena says.
“Well honestly I didn’t know. All I know is I just wanted to see your beautiful smile this morning. What other way to do that, then to buy you breakfast,”
John replies. John also says, “Come on, Let me see that beautiful smile of yours.”
Marlena shyly smiles!
Marlena tells John, “Thank You for not pressing me to talk yesterday. You know I can’t discuss my sessions with you.”
John replies, “I know. I just had a feeling you were bothered by it because you hardly said a word to Abe and I as we were walking back to the office. Then you just shutdown on me when we were alone. I just wanted so bad to let you know I’m here for you if you need to talk. I’m a good listener.”
Marlena replies, “Thank You John. You are so sweet!”
Marlena and John are just about done with breakfast when Marlena’s phone rings. “Dr Evans, May I help you?”
“Marlena, it’s Abe. I’ve read your report and it’s very thorough. I also see that Eugene is not insane and he is able to stand trial.” Marlena replies, “Yes, He is.” Abe tells Marlena that he will submit her findings to the Judge. “If the Judge has any questions he will contact you directly.” Marlena replies, “Okay.”
Marlena then pulls out her next file and starts to go over it. Marlena is so engrossed in the file, she doesn’t hear John call out her name.
In a raised voice John calls out to Marlena startling her. She looks at him with raised eyebrows, “Yes John, you scared me!” “Well, I’ve been trying to get your attention but you weren’t hearing me. I’m going to lunch. Would you like to join me?”
Marlena replies “Yes. That would be nice.” John says, “Okay, It’s your turn to pick the place. Where would you like to go?” Marlena suggests Golden Dragon. John says, “Okay, Golden Dragon it is.”
John and Marlena arrive at the Golden Dragon. John opens the door for Marlena to enter.
Marlena says, “You’re such a gentleman.”
John replies, “Something I learned as a young boy, Ladies go first.” John grabs a table then they head up to the counter to order their food.
They are headed back to the table, John sets his tray down then picks up his cup to get him something to drink. He asks Marlena, “May I get you something to drink as well?”
Marlena says, “Sure, I’ll have what you’re having.”
John returns with two Welch’s strawberry sodas. Marlena says, “Thank You.” John sits down and as he eats, he’s staring into Marlena’s eyes. Marlena returns his gaze and asks “So John, what’s on your mind?” John replies, “You! Of course.”
“Really, You don’t hold back do you.”
“No, I don’t. Especially when I see something I like.” Marlena says, “Really! So, what are you saying?”
“I like what I see in you. Does that make you uncomfortable?”
Marlena replies, “No it doesn’t make me uncomfortable. It’s flattering.” Marlena smiles shyly.
“So Marlena, what do you like to do in your spare time?”
Marlena tells John she likes to go shopping with her girlfriends, she reads and loves to be in her garden.
“How abt you John, What do you like to do outside of work?” Marlena asks in return.
“Well! I hang out with the fellas. We go play pool, golf and go on occasional bike rides. I also like to work out as much as possible.” Marlena mentions, “It’s interesting that you go on occasional bike rides.
I just bought a bike about a month ago. I haven’t broken it in yet.”
John says to Marlena, “Maybe we can take it out this weekend if you don’t have any plans.” Marlena replies, “I don’t have any plans.”
John and Marlena are headed back to the office. Abe is waiting in John’s office. John and Marlena walk into the office with grins on their faces.
“So, can you guys let me in on the joke, I need a laugh right now,” Abe says. John says, “It’s a corny joke Abe. I wasn’t even expecting Marlena to laugh at it.”
Then Marlena says, “What do you call a bee that can’t make up his mind?” Abe says, “I don’t know.” Marlena laughingly replies, “A Maybe.”
Abe didn’t seem amused but Marlena laughed at the joke again. Abe says, “I’m outta here.”
Marlena tells John a joke too. “What does one boob say to the other boob?” John says, “I don’t know.” Marlena replies, “If we don’t get some support, people will think we’re nuts.” John cracks up laughing at Marlena’s joke. He says, “Now that one was funny.”
John then asks, “Are you just about done for the day Marlena?” She replies, “Yes! Let me grab my jacket, my purse and my briefcase then I’ll head out.” John says, “Hold on I’m going to walk out with you.”
CHAPTER 6
It’s Saturday afternoon, John shows up to Marlena’s for their bike ride.
Marlena comes to the door to let John in, she’s still trying to get ready, having to put her shoes on. John asks Marlena where her bike is?
Marlena yells from upstairs it’s in the laundry room.
John says, “I’m going to grab it and put it on my truck.”
Marlena yells, “Okay. I’ll be down in a minute.”
Marlena comes downstairs but John isn’t in the living room. Marlena goes into the kitchen to grab some water for her and John. Just then, John calls out to her “Doc, are you ready to go?”
She yells from the kitchen, “Yes, I’m coming.”
John goes into the kitchen. “Doc, What is all that stuff?”
“I want to get some snacks and water.”
“Woman! Will you come on? I have all of that in the truck.”
“Oh! You do? Okay, I’m ready.” Marlena asks, “Where are we going today?”
John says, “There’s a bike trail called Fisherman Camp Trail that I want to take you to. It’s about 3 miles long.” She says, “Okay.” John then says, “We can go for ice cream afterwards.”
Marlena has this huge grin on her face. She says, “It’s good I brought some money.”
John looks at her sideways. “What do you mean?” John asks.
“You don’t ever need money when you are with me, My Dear.” Marlena smiles shyly.
John gives her a boost to get into his truck. Marlena asks, “How come you never drive your truck to work?”
“I do sometimes”, John replies. Marlena says, “It’s so much roomier than your car.” John says, “Okay, I’ll start driving it to work.
If you want to drive back once we are done with the bike ride, you can.” She said, “Sure. Why not?
John and Marlena start out on the bike ride, admiring the view from up so high on the mountain. John instructs Marlena to stay close so she wouldn’t get lost. She yells to John “Don’t go so fast! I can’t keep up!”
So John tells her to catch up and he’ll go at her pace. John says, “Come on. Let’s go this way, I want to show you something.”
John & Marlena can feel the breeze from the area that they’re at. John said, “Look to the right.”
“Marlena sees a resting area with a waterfall”.
John gets his blanket out of the basket on the back of his bike and lays it down on the grass so Marlena can sit on it. John takes a seat on the rock near the railing. Marlena gets situated on the blanket and asks John why he isn’t sitting on the blanket with her. “I don’t bite, you know,” she says, chuckling.
John says, ”I didn’t want you to get the wrong impression of me.”
Marlena motions for him to come sit next to her on the blanket. John says, “I love to listen to the water; it relaxes me.”
John has his eyes closed when Marlena calls out to him for him to sit up.
“I want to show you something. Scoot over here,” Marlena says. John then scoots over to her.
She tells him to turn his back to her. She starts massaging his neck. He then tenses up, not expecting her to do that.
She says with a soft voice, “Loosen up John, I’m not going to hurt you.”
John lets out a soft moan and says “That feels so good. How did you know I need that?”
“I didn’t know, I guess you could say, I’m psychic.”
Marlena tells John to lean forward and then moves her hand down his back pressing the end of her palm into his back. “Awe, that is just what I needed. You found the right spot.” Marlena tells John “You better not fall asleep on me.” John replies, “Well you better quit then. You are very good with your hands.
I can get used to this.” “Oh! You can, can you?”
Marlena replies. John tells Marlena “Let’s get packed up.
We need to start heading back. We have a ways to go to get back to the truck.” Marlena says sadly, “Okay.”
“Awe Come on, where’s that beautiful smile, I love so much,” John says.
“I’m not ready for this day to end. I’m really having a great time.”
John says, “Who said anything about this day ending.
Remember, we’re going for ice cream.” “Oh Yeah! I forgot about that part,” Marlena replies.
John and Marlena finally make it back to the truck. Marlena is pooped “Whew” she let’s out a big sigh of relief.
John says, “So I take it, you don’t want to drive back?” “Not today”, Marlena says.
“Here. Let me help you up in the truck.” He picks her up and puts her in the truck.
She says her legs feel like Jell-O.
John pulls up to Joe’s Ice Cream shack.
They go through the Drive-Thru because Marlena’s too tired to get out.
John asks Marlena how many scoops and what flavor she wants. Marlena replies, “Rocky Road. Double scoop with a cone.”
John orders double scoop cookie dough.
They park in the parking lot to eat their ice cream. He tells Marlena, “Next time we won’t ride so far. I just wanted to show you the beautiful waterfall.” Marlena says, “The waterfall was nice. I especially liked spending the day with you.” John says, “I’m enjoying spending today with you too.”
They are done with their ice cream and now they’re headed back to Marlena’s.
John asks Marlena, “Can you make it to the front door?” Marlena says, “Yes I think I can.” John tells her “Hang tight. I got you.
Where are your house keys?”
Marlena hands John the house keys.
He goes to unlock the door then come back to the truck to get Marlena out the truck and carry her in the house. He gently places her on the couch.
He then heads back out to the truck to get her bike out to put it back in the laundry room.
John sits next to Marlena on the couch and puts her legs in his lap and starts to massage them. Marlena says, “You just read my mind. I was just thinking I could really use a massage right now.” John says, “I’m your man!” Marlena smiles shyly then says, “You sure are! Thank You.
That really feels great.”
John takes off Marlena’s socks so he can massage her feet. He tells her “You have some pretty toes.” “Thank You! John.” “They are tired”, she says.
He starts rubbing her feet. She lets out a sigh! saying, “I’m in heaven.”
John, thinks to himself, “she has kissable toes. Not yet Johnny Boy, you don’t want to scare her away”!
John can see that she’s dozing off.
He says, “I’m putting you to sleep aren’t I?” Marlena says, “Yes! Your massages are heavenly. You have a strong grip.”
He asks Marlena, “When was the last time you rode a bike?”She says, “Years”.
“So, that explains why you’re so sore. I’ll choose a much easier trail next time.
Believe it or not, this was an easy trail. It’s a good thing we didn’t do the entire trail.”
Marlena said faintly, “It sure felt like we did.” Her eyes close completely.
John covers her up then leaves.
CHAPTER 7
It’s Monday afternoon and Marlena is headed to the station to surprise John for lunch. She knocks on the door but there’s no answer.
Sheila informs Marlena that John hasn’t made it into work yet and that she hasn’t heard from him either.
Marlena stands there with a puzzled look on her face wondering where he could be.
She heads down to Abe’s office to see if he knows where John is. “Knock, Knock” her knocks went unanswered at Abe’s office as well.
She walks away worried where John could be. She tries calling his cell phone no answer.
Marlena leaves a message, “Hi John, It’s me. I came to the station to surprise you and you’re not here. I guess, I’ll just go home. Call me when you get this message.”
Marlena grabs some files from her office then heads home for the rest of the day.
As she was getting out of the car, her cell phone rings, Marlena says, “Hello”. “Hi Doc! I got your message.”
“Hi John, where are you right now?” “I’m on my way to your place”.
“Are we still on for lunch?”
“I guess so, but the burgers and fries are cold now.”
“Okay, well don’t get too comfortable I’m taking you out to eat.”
Marlena says, “Okay”.
About 20 minutes later John pulls into the driveway.
He walks up to the door.
Before he could knock on the door, Marlena opened it.
“Hey Gorgeous, How are you? Sorry, I missed you today.
I was at a meeting with Abe at the courthouse. I couldn’t have my phone on.
I was thinking about you all day.
I was hoping I would see you before Thursday.” Marlena said, “I’ve been thinking about you since Saturday. Sorry I fell asleep on you.” John says, “Oh No worries. I wore you out with that bike ride.”
Marlena replies, “Yes, you did.” John says, “How about we order pizza and wings and then rent a movie instead?”
Marlena says, “That’s fine.” “Marlena. What do you want on the pizza?”
Marlena says, “No anchovies or mushrooms, but everything else is okay.”
John orders one large super supreme pizza with no anchovies and mushrooms, a 12 piece hot wings and a 2 Liter Dr. Pepper (Vanilla Float).
Marlena ordered The Notebook and Never Been Kissed on Amazon Prime.
While they are waiting for the pizza to arrive, Marlena goes upstairs to change into something more comfortable.
When Marlena comes back downstairs she notices John has set the table and he also made popcorn.
“Marlena! The food & movie is ready. Grab a blanket for me too.”
Marlena says, “We can share this blanket.” John says, “Okay. If you say so.”
John signals Marlena to come sit by him so they can eat.
John and Marlena are enjoying the pizza and wings
. Marlena says, “I’m not going to eat all this because I want to save some room for the popcorn.”
John says, “Suit yourself.”
Marlena snuggles on the couch with her legs in John’s lap.
John wants Marlena to come closer so she moves closer and lays her head on John’s shoulder, just then John asks, “What about the lights?”Marlena says, “I’ll turn them off.”
Marlena gets up to turn the lights off and John starts the movie.
The movie is just about over when John looks at Marlena out of the corner of his eye and she is staring at him.
He turns his face towards hers and they kiss slowly and then with more urgency.
John whispers to Marlena, “I’ve waited for this moment to happen.
” Marlena says, “So have I.” John then says, “I love how soft your lips are”.
Marlena says, “I love how soft your lips are too.”
She enjoys it so much that sparks start to fly as the kiss intensifies with some tongue action.
Marlena then pulls John on top of her on the couch.
They begin to make out on the couch forgetting all about the movie.
John slips his hand in Marlena’s sleep shirt to feel her breast and play with her nipples all the while he’s kissing her passionately.
“Oh John, You know how to make me feel special.”
“You ain’t seen nothing yet, baby!”
They continue to kiss and stroke each other.
Before things get too hot and heavy, John removes his hand from underneath Marlena’s shirt and says, “I really hate to leave you like this, all hot and heavy, but I have to be in court early tomorrow.
I won’t be able to call you until lunch.
I had a really good time tonight.”
Marlena says softly, “Me too. John, I miss you already.”
“Oh baby, I miss you too.”
They both get up and walk to the door holding hands.
John takes hold of both her hands and kisses them telling her, “I’ll call you before I go into the meeting.”
He then grabs hold of her face and passionately kisses her before walking out the door.
He says, “I’ll call you.”
Marlena says, “Okay! Drive Safe.”
CHAPTER 8
The next morning, Marlena wakes up with a smile on her face.
She’s thinking of John of course.
She heads into the bathroom to hop in the shower.
Just as she’s about to step in the shower the phone rings.
She runs out of the bathroom naked to catch it before it goes to voicemail.
“Hello!” she says, out of breath. “Hi sweetheart. Why are you out of breath?”
“You called just as I was about to get in the shower.”
John replies, “Oh Really? So, what are you wearing?”
She says, “Nothing at the moment.”
John says, “Hmmm! I like the sound of that. I wish I was there to join you.”
Marlena says, “I wish you were here too.”
John says, “I have about 20 minutes before I have to go inside. I just wanted to call and tell you Good Morning and that I can’t wait to see you later this week.”
Marlena says, “I can’t wait to see you either. Honey, I gotta get going. My first appointment is at 9am.
Call me later okay?”
John replies, “Don’t work too hard. I’ll call you later”
Marlena says, “Okay, bye.”
CHAPTER 9
It’s Thursday morning, John is already at the office.
Marlena see’s John’s blinds are closed so she knocks on the door.
John says, “Come in, it’s open.” Marlena walks in. John gets up to greet her.
“Hi Beautiful” he sweetly whispers into her ear
“Hi yourself handsome, I’ve missed you,” she seductively replies.
John pulls her tighter against him as he’s smelling her hair and caressing her back enjoying holding her close.
Just as he starts to feel the beginning of his arousal there’s a knock at the door.
As difficult as it is he releases Marlena from the embrace and huskily answers “Come in”
Sheila pokes her head in the door saying, “Mr. Scott is here to see you.”
John says, “Okay, I’ll be right there.”
John tells Marlena, “Don’t leave. I’ll be right back okay.”
Marlena leans up against the door frame, admiring John standing before her daydreaming.
John walks back to his office, seeing Marlena is in another world. He says “Boo!”
John says softly, “A penny for your thoughts?”
Marlena replies, “They’re all about you and me.”
John says, “Step into my office and tell me all about them.”
Marlena says, “This is not the place to discuss them,” winking at him.
John is leaning up against his desk looking at Marlena seductively saying, “Well Come on over here and show me instead.”
He grabs her close and they share a nice juicy wet kiss. It lasted for a while.
They each pulled away wanting more.
With shortness of breath Marlena says, “As amazing as that kiss was, I have to get to work.”
“How about one for the road?”
Marlena replies with urgency, “Sure why not”.
John steps in for another kiss.
He kisses the tip of her nose then plants one on each cheek then rubs his nose against hers. He then circles her top lip with his tongue then devours her entire mouth with his. Neither one is willing to stop but John interrupts saying, “Okay, let’s get to work.” Marlena replies, “This kiss should last me all day because I’m working through lunch today, I’m leaving early.”
Marlena stops by John’s office on her way out. He wasn’t in his office.
She leaves him a note. “Hey Handsome, I was hoping to see you before I left for the day.” She leaves a kiss print on the note.
Just as she is about to turn around to leave John taps her on the ass.
“Hey sexy! Leaving so soon?”
She says, “Yes. I have to tie up some loose ends at the hospital before heading home.”
John is sitting down at his desk and motions Marlena to come take a seat on his lap.
He pulls her close to smell her hair then whispers in her ear, “Are you free for dinner tomorrow night?”
“Yes, I’m free. Where are we going?”
John says, “Arpeggios.”
“Oh okay. I hear their food is really good there.”
“Ok. Honey, I have to go.”
They share a passionate kiss, then Marlena leaves.
While heading to her car a guy comes up behind her to rob her. He knocks her down after snatching her phone and purse. She manages to scream for help. One of the officer’s gets on the radio to call for help.
He says “Dr. Evans is down on the 2nd Level G Parking Lot. I’m in pursuit of the suspect.”
John hears the call on the radio and races to the parking structure with Abe to see about Marlena.
John sees Marlena on the ground near her car.
Her files are scattered on the ground. John goes to her, “Honey, are you hurt?” He takes her in his arms and holds her close. “No. I’m okay just a little shaken up.
He took my phone and my purse. My keys were in my purse John. He came out of nowhere he had a knife.”
“Let me look at you. Are you sure you’re okay?”
She nods her head yes with tears in her eyes.
John wipes her tears then kisses her also telling her “My heart skipped a beat when I heard your name over the radio.
I’m so glad you’re okay.”
Marlena and John walk back into the station together. Marlena has her arm around John’s waist and John has his arm around Marlena’s neck. Marlena tells John, “I’m going to go to my office for a minute okay. I left something on my desk.”
Marlena took a while to come back, so John went to look for her. When he saw her staring out the window, he snuck up behind her and wrapped his arms around her saying “It’s me honey.” He snuggles his head under her neck and places a kiss just below her ear saying “Are you okay?” She said softly, “Now I am.”
John says, “Are you ready to go?”
Marlena says, “Yes, let’s go.”
Marlena got in his truck, then John got in. She laid her head on his shoulder as he drove her home. When they got to her place, John asked if she wanted him to stay? Marlena says, “Yes, just until I fall asleep.”
John says okay. He also says, “I’ll pick you up in the morning for work okay? What time do you want me here?”
She says, “7:15 am.” John says, “Okay.
Now close those beautiful eyes.” Marlena looks at him wanting him to kiss her, so he took her face in his hands and rubbed his face into hers and kissed her rough, his lips mashed against hers as if to flatten and destroy her mouth. He then breaks the kiss to stick his tongue in her mouth to intensify the kiss sucking on her lips and she’s doing the same to him.
They both break the kiss, John says, “If we keep this up, I’ll be here all night.”
Marlena says, “Thank You for bringing me home. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“Okay, Baby! See you in the morning. Goodnight.”
He kisses her again, then leaves.
CHAPTER 10
It’s Friday morning and John pulls into the driveway at Marlena’s. He lets himself in with the spare key. He goes upstairs and walks in her bedroom.
He hears the shower running. He opens the door to the bathroom. Marlena felt the draft.
“Hey Beautiful!”
“Hi yourself, handsome.”
“I just wanted a sneak peak of what’s to come later tonight.”
Marlena gets out the shower, as John is standing there waiting to wrap her up in the towel.
He starts to dry her off, kissing her causing butterflies and chills to go up her spine .
He drops the towel on the floor and starts caressing her breast while trailing her body with his kisses.
She says, “I can get used to this style of drying off, you know.”
John replies, “So can I.”
John picks her up and carries her over to the bed and continues to trail her body with his tongue causing her to moan and call out his name.
“John, you’re going to make us late.”
“That’s okay, I’m the Captain, remember?”
John felt himself busting out of his pants, so he backed off.
“Honey, are you having coffee this morning?”
Marlena says. “Yes dear.” “Can you start the coffee maker for me please?”
“Sure, My dear.”
“I’ll take it to go,” she says.
John goes downstairs to make the coffee.
Marlena came downstairs to the smell of fresh brewed coffee.
John hands her the cup of coffee. He grabs her purse, briefcase and jacket then heads for the truck.
“Baby, you lock up. I’ll be in the truck.
I have your purse, briefcase and your jacket.”
Marlena says, “What did I ever do to deserve you?”
John pulls into the parking structure at the precinct then opens the door for Marlena to get out. They walk hand in hand inside the station.
Sheila says, “Hi lovebirds.”
They both look at each other with a shy look on their faces.
Sheila says to the both of them, “it’s only so obvious”.
John says to Sheila, “keep that bit of information on the low”.
She then says, “Your secret is safe with me Sir!”
John ushers Marlena into his office. “Oh what do we have here?”
“Honey, here are your belongings. One second before you open that envelope.”
John goes to the door and calls out Officer Bingham’s name. “Hey Bingham, who put this on my desk?”
“I did Sir,” he replied.
”I arrested the perp yesterday.
We got Dr. Evan’s things off of him.
I didn’t want to disturb you because I knew you were with Dr. Evans last night.”
John says, “Thank You for not disturbing me. But in the future just shoot me a text message for reference.” Officer Bingham replies, “Yes, Sir. Dr. Evans, I’m glad you’re okay.”
Marlena says, “Thank you for calling for help and going after the guy.”
“I can bring him up if you want to talk to him, Captain.”
“Yea, do that.” John replies.
Officer Bingham says, “As a matter of fact there he is right there.”
John storms out of his office and grabs the guy by his collar and gets in his face. He pushes him up against the wall. Marlena’s watching from John’s office.
Just then Abe enters the squad room pulling John off the guy.
Abe pushes John up against the cabinet and tells him to calm down.
“I’ll take it from here,” Abe says.
“Hey, Bingham, take him down to lock up.”
Abe then goes into John’s office. “John. What are you thinking?” “I wasn’t thinking, sorry,” John says.
“I know you are angry at yourself because you weren’t there to prevent this from happening.”
Marlena looks at John, surprised by what Abe just said because she had no idea that John was blaming himself.
John then punches the cabinet drawer.
Marlena steps to him. “What is Abe talking about?”
Abe then says to Marlena, “Can you give us a minute please.”
Marlena says, “Sure! John, we’re not done yet, then she walks out.”
Abe apologizes to John for blurting that out. He says, “I thought she knew already.”
She goes out into the squad room to talk to Sheila.
Sheila says, “Captain is blaming himself for what happened to you. He was pretty torn up about it yesterday.”
Marlena says, “He hasn’t said anything to me about it. I’ll talk to him later.”
Abe comes out of John’s office and tells Marlena she could go back in now.
Marlena goes into John’s office with a concerned look on her face.
She sees that John is still upset.
“Hey handsome,” walking up to John wrapping her arms around his neck kissing him.
“Why didn’t you say anything to me?”
John says, “Because my main concern was that you were okay.”
She says, “You should have told me how you felt and I would’ve told you, what happened wasn’t your fault.
You are not to blame here.
I should have been more aware of my surroundings.
I want to Thank You for caring so much for me, but you shouldn’t have gone after that guy like that. He could press charges against you,”
Marlena says, her voice filled with concern. John says, ‘Let’s hope he doesn’t. “There’s no need to thank me. Don’t you know by now, you mean the world to me.”
CHAPTER 11
The day was finally over. John escorts Marlena to her car and kisses her goodbye.
“I’ll see you in a bit.
I’ve gotta go home and get dressed. He,. Put on that sexy dress I love so much tonight.”
“Okay,” she replies, getting into her car.
John stops at the flower shop on the way to Marlena’s.
She slips into her dress, just then the doorbell rings.
She heads downstairs to answer the door.
She gasped when she saw John looking very handsome and holding the lilacs in his hand.
“Hi beautiful, these are for you.”
“Why Thank You Handsome.
You don’t look so bad yourself.”
He kisses her and scoops her off her feet. She has her arms wrapped around his neck
. He kisses her cleavage that he loves so much.
She says to him, “You smell so good.” John replies, “So do you, Marlena.”
He lets her down easy. Marlena proceeds to the kitchen to put the lilacs in a vase. She returned to the living room to place them on the end table near the front door.
John reached for the door and asked if she was ready to go. She replied “Yes, I’m ready”.
John leaves out the door first so Marlena could set the alarm.
John is waiting at the truck. He pulls out the step ladder for her to get up in the truck then shuts the door.
As they are driving down the street she snuggles in next to John. He wraps his arm around her holding close. They pull into the parking lot at Arpeggios.
John gets out and opens the car door for Marlena to exit the truck. He reaches for her hand as they begin to walk towards the restaurant. He then opens the restaurant door for her to enter.
The Hostess asked if they had a reservation. John says “Yes, we do. Table for 2 under the name Black.”
. The Hostess escorts them to their table. John pulls out Marlena’s chair and awaits for her to sit before he takes his seat.
The waiter arrives at the table to ask if they want anything to drink. John says “We’ll have your most popular white wine.”
Marlena gives John this look of surprise. “White Wine! A bit fancy I see.”
John replies, “Nothing but the best for you, my dear.”
The waiter returns to the table with the white wine and begins to pour. John says “I want to propose a toast to us, our new found friendship and more.” They say in unison, “to us”.
The waiter returns to the table to take their orders.
Marlena orders first. “I’ll take a Chicken Mediterranean salad with balsamic dressing and also may I have a glass of ice water with lemon and cucumber on the side?”
John placed his order as well and he wanted a ribeye steak medium rare with a side order of sautéed shrimp with A1 steak sauce.
The waiter is headed to the table to bring John and Marlena their food.The waiter asked if there was anything else he could get for them.. John says “No! We’re fine.”
As they are eating John says, “Honey, How is your caseload coming along?” Marlena says, “Pretty smooth.
So, I’ve been meaning to ask you John, are you still blaming yourself for what happened to me?”
“No! I’m over that.
But from here on out I’m escorting you to your car and if I’m not available I’ll have an officer escort you, just to be on the safe side.”
They are just about done with dinner. John raises his hand for the waiter to come over with the check. The waiter asked if they wanted dessert? John says, “We’ll pass on dessert this evening.”
The waiter returned to the table with the check. John says, “Don’t leave. We’re ready to pay and you may keep the change.” John and Marlena proceed to the exit.
CHAPTER 12
John takes Marlena back to her place. John walks her to the door. He takes her keys from her and opens the door. He steps inside and asks “What’s the code?” She responds “DocSafe.”
John punches in the code and he heads back out the door to leave.
Marlena says, “Leaving so soon?”
John glances at her saying “Would you like for me to stay?”
She says “Yes. Would you like some dessert?”
“What did you have in mind?” Marlena says, “Strawberries & whipped cream.”
John replies “Yes, I’ll have some.”
Marlena heads to the kitchen to get the strawberries and whipped cream.
As she re-enters the living room, she notices John has turned down the lights and turned on some soft music.
John took the bowl of strawberries away from Marlena and placed them on the table then reached out for her hand asking her “May I have this dance?”
She sweetly replies “Yes, You May.”
He holds her close, smelling her hair as he whispers in her ear, “You feel so good in my arms.”
She replies saying “I could stay like this all night but we both have to get ready for work in the morning.”
John apologized for wasting the strawberries and whipped cream.
Marlena says, “No worries. We can try again another night.” He said “Most certainly”.
John gathered his things and headed for the door. Marlena walked to the door as well. John turned around and kissed her with such force. “I really had a great time tonight. See you in a few hours.” Marlena smiles and says “Thank You for dinner and dancing. You drive safe now. See you in a few.”
CHAPTER 13
TGIF John thinks to himself.
He’s extra excited because he has something special planned for Marlena tonight. He wants to tell her how he really feels about her. He’s hoping she feels the same way. Things have really been going good between them. He walks into his office to see that stack of papers on his desk and thinks to himself, ‘Looks like I’ll be here this weekend working. Nothing is going to keep me from going to Marlena’s tonight.’
John walks down the hall to Marlena’s office and knocks on the door.
Marlena says, “Come in!”
Marlena sees that it’s John and raises her finger to say 1 minute.
Marlena hangs up the phone.
“To what do I owe this handsome favor?”
John says “I’m here to escort you to your car.”
Marlena replies, “Well, I think I can get used to this type of treatment.”
Marlena grabs her coat, briefcase and purse then heads for the door.
John is close behind her. Marlena asks “John, do you need anything out of your office?”
John replies, “No I’m ready to go.”
They head for the elevator. Once they exit the elevator John walks Marlena to her car.
As John walks to his truck he hears a woman screaming “Help Me, he’s going to kill me!”
John drops everything and runs towards the woman.
As he approaches the woman he sees a man with a gun pointed at the woman.
John draws his weapon and tells the man to put his gun down. When the guy turns around he’s pointing the gun at John. John yells at him again, “Put the gun down!” The man refuses.
Meanwhile, Marlena is in her car watching all this unfold before her.
She gets on her car phone and calls inside the police station and tells Sheila “John she needs back up, Now! He’s in the east side structure of the parking lot. We’re on the 2nd floor G Level.
Please hurry! The guy has a gun pointed at John.”
Sheila says, “Officer’s are on their way now.”
John yells at the guy again to put the gun down or he will shoot. The guy then takes off running. John is in pursuit of the guy on foot. Marlena loses sight of John and the gunmen he’s chasing and worries when she doesn’t see John anywhere.
“Oh My Goodness” she says, “God, please keep John safe. Amen.”
Just as John reaches the elevator, the guy darts out in front of a patrol car and is killed instantly.
John stops in his tracks.
The additional officers arrive in the parking structure to assist John with the suspect. John says “We need to call the coroner. This guy is gone.
“How did you know I was up here? I didn’t call for help.”
The officers replied “Dr. Evans called.” John says “Oh my gosh, Where is she”?.
The officers said Dr. Evans called from her car phone.
John ran back to Marlena’s car and as she saw John approaching her car, she ran to him and jumped in his arms. Marlena looks at John with concern “Oh my Goodness honey, are you okay? I was so worried about you.” John replied softly saying, “I’m okay, sweetheart.” John embraced her a little tighter than normal. “That looked really intense, things could have gone south really quick.” Marlena says, “That man could have killed you.” John replies, “Thank goodness he didn’t. I was more scared for the lady though.” Marlena asks how the lady was doing?.
John answers, “She’s a bit shaken up but she is okay. I’m sorry about our date being ruined. I have to take a statement from her and write up this report. If it’s not too late, I’ll stop by later, if that’s okay with you? It won’t take me long.” Marlena reaches out for him to hug her once again and they softly kiss. She then says “It’s okay if you can’t make it. We can always reschedule. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
John tells Marlena to“be careful driving home, I’ll call you in a bit.” John heads back inside to write the report so he could hurry home to change and go to Marlena’s.
CHAPTER 14
Marlena finally makes it home and she orders chinese food for her and John to eat.
The phone rings and Marlena answers, “Hello” John replies back “Hi Honey, I’m on my way.”
Marlena says “Okay, dinner will be ready when you get here.”
John knocks at the door no answer.
He rings the doorbell and there still is no answer.
John reaches in the flower pot to get the spare key out. He opens the door to find Marlena dozed off on the couch. He closes the door behind himself softly, walks over to the couch and places a soft kiss on her forehead.
Marlena slowly opens her eyes trying to focus. “Hi honey.” Marlena motions John to come and sit next to her on the couch.
“I’m glad you decided to come spend time with me. I tried to stay awake but I guess I was still a bit overwhelmed about what happened earlier.”
John replied sadly, saying, “I’m sorry you had to witness that.”
While her head is on his shoulder, John leans his head back on the couch saying, “I sure am starved.” Marlena says, “I’ll set the table. You just relax.”
After a few minutes, Marlena tells John dinner is ready. John gets up from the couch and takes a seat at the table next to Marlena. He grabs her hands and kisses them saying, “Thank You for calling back up for me today. I was wondering how my guys knew I needed help.” Marlena replies, “I was so scared. I thought he was going to shoot you.” John finishes his food but Marlena barely touches her. John asks “Are you not hungry tonight?”
Marlena looks at him with those beautiful eyes saying “Not really, but did you leave room for dessert?”
“Would you like me to get it?” John asks.
Marlena replies sweetly, “Yes.” In the meantime, Marlena goes upstairs to slip into something more comfortable.
She returns downstairs in this short black number with a leopard robe on. John is just mesmerized by the beauty that stands in front of him saying,
“You are so beautiful Marlena.” Marlena says, “Thank You and you don’t look so bad yourself.
Oh John, Thank You for clearing the table.” He explains, “I put your plate on the stove. I wasn’t sure if you wanted to eat it later or tomorrow for lunch.”
Marlena then steps in close to John and they embrace.
John reaches for Marlena’s hands and he grips them in his hands then kisses them. John then says “Come sit with me on the couch. I have something to tell you.”
“Oh My! You’re scaring me John.”
