The young man sat in front of the keyboard for what seemed like forever. His eyes
re-reading the email for the umpteenth time, but while he could see the words and he understood, the brain didn’t comprehend the whole situation.
He knew that there were senior officials in front of him, he was the lowest on the totem pole which meant he’d have to go, but still he had things to do here. Had a life here …
“You have to be kidding me. I can’t just drop everything and go there.” He said out loud
to the air around him as his hand went to the back of his neck, scratching an invisible itch.
“Stop that.”
The voice declared from somewhere beside him and he turned around to the source
of the bassoon. “You will be going and you will do this research as requested.”
Ryan tilted his head and looked at the man who was in front of the door, shaking his head. “Don’t you ever knock? “
Stefano DiMera merely chuckled and shook his head in reply. “My company.”
“Is terrible and we both know it. Why are you sending me?”
The older man chuckled again; the youth didn’t have the foggiest clue of just how much he was like them.
“Because what occurred was a miracle and with the anniversary of it coming up, it needs to be investigated. It needs to be documented properly.”
“You’re afraid.”
The young man stated the obvious and the elder knew it. The pretty doctor was legendary within the organization for all she did to and because of the Phoenix, add her to the stories of the Pawn and everyone knew the score.
“She’s to be protected especially with that idiot off doing who knows what.”
Ryan nodded, saying nothing more as he gathered up his things to throw into his away bag.
“I know … she’s not to know a thing.”
Stefano watched him walk away and chuckled. “I never said that young Padawan.”
