“Are you going to mope all night or will that frown be a permanent
thing?” Marlena looked up and found the three graces standing in her
office. “What brings you three to my door?” Belle came bouncing in
first, followed by her older sisters. “Well we’re here on a mission and you’re going to help us.”
Marlena began to laugh. “Oh I am?” Belle nodded. “Uh huh.” Marlena
leaned forward. “And just what is the mission called?” Samantha smiled the grin that indicated that there was great mischief ahead. “Operation cheer Mom up.”
Marlena opened her mouth, but nothing came out and so she closed it and smiled as Carrie began to gather up her things. “Let’s go. We’re nottaking No for an answer.”

Marlena sat in the passenger seat of Carrie’s B.M.W and looked at the trio with a smile. She was just so lucky to have her girls. “TURN ON THE RADIO!” Marlena spun around. “Isabella, you don’t need to scream.” Smirking sweetly, Belle changed her voice. “Carrie could you please put on some tunes?”
Rolling her eyes, Carrie did as she was told. “Ah, a hint of just what we’re going to be up to today.” She began to laugh as the lyrics streamed out of the speakers.

Marlena had never laughed that hard as she did that day. The girls had planned for a shopping spree, after a morning being made over. “How did you know that I’d needed this?” Carrie wrapped her arms around her mother of the heart. “Well for all that you’ve done for us and for the sadness that’s been in your eyes since this estrangement with you and John. Well we figured that for today, Girls indeed do just want to have fun.
The phone rings in the middle of the night

Marlena was sitting quietly waiting for the girls when she heard Belle chortling away to herself in the dressing room and she bit the inside of her cheek to keep herself from laughing at her daughter’s soprano voice belting out the song that had been in her head all day.

The sudden image of the vein in John’s forehead throbbing as Belle
dragged home a succession of boyfriends that came into her mind made
Marlena begin to laugh. “Oh this is the reason why I HAVE to buy a video camera!!”
“That is NOT being bought Isabella, put it back.” Belle’s voice rang
out. “MOTHER!” Marlena glanced up in time to see Belle dressed as if her 13 year old was going to be 43. “No Belle, if I wouldn’t wear it, YOU will NOT be wearing it.”
Belle threw her hands up, muttering under her breath about how the
adults in her life were wet rags with no sense of dress style. “I
remember a time when she was happiest in overalls and ponytails. Seems like just yesterday.” Carrie and Sami in tune laughingly called out from looking through the racks of clothes. “It WAS yesterday.”

“So are you totally relaxed now Mom?” Marlena lifted her head off the headrest. “I think so but guess that depends on what we’re off to next?” Belle shrugged and her eyes went wide. “I have NO clue what you’re talking about.” Marlena shut her eyes. “Uh huh. As if I don’t know you three lovely ladies as well as I know myself.”
Sami leaned forward and hugged her mom from behind. “We’re taking you home and it’s going to be a girls night in.” Marlena looked sideways at her daughters. “Uh huh.”
Carrie began to laugh. “Now I’m hurt. She doesn’t trust us.” The trio began to laugh.
Marlena came out of the car and ran smack into John, who had just come home at the same time. “Relax Mom. Remember what today taught you.” Belle looked at her sisters for reinforcements. Marlena turned back to John and smiled as she stood up on tiptoe and kissed his cheek..

“Welcome home dear.” She gathered the bags from their outing and went inside.

John looked at his daughters and shrugged. “Who was that and what did she do to your Mother?” Carrie took his hand and as they went inside, explained what they did for Marlena that day.

When the working day is done
In the time it had taken them to get upstairs to the Penthouse, Marlena had ran upstairs, changed her clothes and was waiting, leaning against the back of the couch. She waited as each of the girls came in first. As soon as she saw John’s head come through, she reached for her surprise and threw the cream pie right at him.
