Where Does My Heart Beat Now? – By Unknown Author

It had been three days since John and Marlena had proclaimed their love to each other in front of friends and family. Their wedding was absolutely delcious and neither John nor Marlena could have asked for more. Tears were shed, laughter was evident and their love was pure and true.

But it didn’t last too long. Two days ago, John was swept out to sea, leaving Marlena alone and lost. She had no one to turn to. It was a feeling of depression for her. They had survived every possibly obstacle thrown in their way, but their love wasn’t stronger than nature. Some things were just too strong, too much, even for the purest of loves.

Marlena stood there alone on the beach watching the tides roll in and out. The slight breeze blew her hair gently across her face, but she didn’t seem to mind as her thoughts were lost on thoughts of John.

So much to believe in – We were lost in time
Everything I needed
I feel into your eyes
Always thought of keepin –
your heart next to mine
But now that seems so far away
Don’t know how love could leave without a trace
Where do silent hearts go?

“Where are we going?” Marlena asked as John lead her across the beach.

“That is for me to know… and you… well, you’ll just have to wait and see”, he said teasing her. They both let out a slight laugh as John held her hand gently as they crossed over a mess of rocks. “Are you ready to see this?” he said removing the blindfold that had been covering her eyes.

“I don’t know, am I?”

“Why don’t you tell me?” He wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her closer as he slowly removed the blindfold.

Marlena took in a deep breath, amazed by the beauty of a Hawaiian sunset. “John!” she exclaimed, looking over the dark blue ocean to find the light orange sky meeting with the water in a far off place. “This is beautiful.”

“You know what I love about you?”

“Yes… but I don’t mind hearing it.”

John slowly turned her around to face him. “I love you for your ability to look at something so plain, and find such beauty within. I love you for your compassion towards other, and I love you for always finding that silver lining within every person and everything.”

Marlena slowly leaned forward, capturing his lips in a soft, slow kiss. “I love you!” She said pulling back and turning to watch the sunset once more.

“John, you were my silver lining. And now I’ve lost you, and… I just… can’t go on without… you in my life”, she said with tears welling up in her eyes. “I need you here with me… I need you… to help with Brady… and Belle. I won’t be able… to look at them without seeing… *you*. I won’t be able to face them… to look at them without… letting the tears fall.” She choked on her words, unable to say what her heart felt.

Marlena sat down on the sand of the beach and stared out towards the sun which was just beginning to set. “How can you be so cruel?” she said, speaking to the water. “So vicious? You ripped my husband away from me. Why?” she asked herself more than anything else. “Why didn’t I stop him? Why does he always have to play the hero? Look where it ended. Why couldn’t you just be happy with what we had? Not only did the woman loose her life, but you lost yours as well!” she said pounding the ground under her.

Where does my heart beat now
Where is the sound
That only echoes through the night
Where does my heart beat now
I can’t live without
Without feeling it inside
Where do all the lonely hearts go

“It hurts so much.” Marlena said softly. “I never could have imagined loosing you so soon. But I have, and it hurts like nothing before. You were my rock, my faith, my limb. And I’ve lost it, I’ve lost you.”

The tears had stopped by now, she had cried so much the past few hours, that her tears had turned dry. The pain she felt dug deep into her soul, wounding it for eternity. The lost her other half. The half that gave her joy, hapiness, laughter and more.

Candle in the water – Drifting helplessly
Hiding from the thunder –
Come and rescue me
Driven by hunger –
Of the endless dream
I’m searching for the hand that I can hold
I’m reaching for the arms that let me know
Where do silent hearts go?

As she sat there alone on the beach, her mind wandered back to their wedding, their vows.

“John what I chose to say to you is from the Song of Solomon. It signifies to me the end of bad times, the beginning of the good times. Rise up my love, my fair one, and come away, for lo the winter has past, the rains are over and gone, the flowers are appearing on earth, and the time for signing birds has come. My beloved is mine, and I am his until dawn breaks and the shadows fade. Turn my beloved and be thou ever mine. I really do feel as though our winter has past, our bad times are over, and the good times are beginning. Now I know that nobody can ever promise what the future will bring, but I will make you one solemn vow. I will love you no matter what, whether rain or drought or sun or storm, whatever comes, I will laugh with you, weep with you, celebrate with you, and morn with you. Whatever comes, I am yours my love, until death part us.

I know that out there somewhere
He waits for me
Someone who’s searching just like me
Then one touch overcomes the silence
Love still survives
Two hearts needing one another
Give me wings to fly
I hear my heartbeat now
I hear the sound
Hear it echo through the night

“John… I just want you to know that I will always – always love you. No matter what. We are soulmates and I know that someday we will be reunited for etirnity.”

I feel my heart beat now
Now that I’ve found
The feeling lives inside
I’ve got someone to give my heart to
Feel it getting stronger and stronger and stronger
Hearts are made to last
Till the end of time
