The Officer and The Lady – By Nic

“…I think so too. Wait, he just walked in.” Bo glanced toward the

door as he heard it shut rather loudly. John didn’t even

acknowledge him as he pulled off his 8 point cap, tossing it onto

the computer desk.

“Phone’s for you.” Bo handed him the cordless, and walked into

the other room. John almost missed the smirk that pulled at the

corner of Bo’s lips.

Rolling his eyes only slightly, John took the phone. “Yea?”

“Hello sexy.” A deep voice he didn’t recognize came through the

other end. He furrowed his brow, as Bo had to hold in a laugh.

“Uhm… hello?” John cleared his throat.

“I want you soo badly…” The unknown female voice said once

again. John turned and looked at Bo who put a straight face on.

John held out his hands as if to say, ‘what the hell’? Bo shrugged.

Before John could say anything, Hope’s cheery voice came quickly

through the line. “…to double date with me and Bo tonight. You

need to get out of the house and if you say no or hang up on me,

don’t think I won’t come over there myself, mister,” she said

quickly.

Rolling his eyes for the second time in the past 5 minutes, John

lunged at Bo who jumped up from the couch and leapt over the

banister, leading upstairs. If he wanted to catch him that badly,

he could have, but he really wasn’t in the mood.

John held the phone in between his shoulder and his ear as he sat

on the coffee table. “Hope, I thought we talked about this.”

“Sure we did. But we never came to any conclusion,” Hope replied.

“Yeah, we did. I don’t want to go out. I don’t want to meet

anyone new. I don’t want to have a good time. That’s it. I just

want to sit around and mope like a fucking bum and gain 30 extra

pounds, get kicked out of the Marines and go live off Mom and

Pop for the rest of my life,” John said, exasperated with himself.

Did he really just spew all that stuff out?

“Well now.” Hope giggled. “Are you disgusted with yourself yet?”

John flopped back on the couch. “What time are we going out?”

Hope just smiled to herself and continued chattering away to

John before he eventually handed the phone over to Bo.

~

Bo teasingly whistled as John descended the stairs, his black

dress pants missing the jacket that went along with it. “Aren’t you

supposed to be ready?” John wondered, knowing for a fact that

Hope wasn’t here yet… because of the way Bo was currently

dressed.

“Nah, I’m going to wait until Hope gets here. She gets all feisty

when she finds out I’m not dressed the way she wants me dressed.

Then she’ll pull me upstairs and correct me for it,” Bo said in a

dreamily way.

John couldn’t help but smile. “You’re disgusting. Get a life.” He

buttoned up his light brown vest and went in search for his jacket.

“I’ll have you know, I have a life,” Bo argued as he made his way

into the kitchen. He opened the door and pulled out something

emitting a smell. He made a face, then shrugged and grabbed a

spoon.

“And how many times were you kicked out of the police

academy?” John asked him. “Oh that’s right, you’re banging the

commissioners daughter to keep your ass in it.” John snapped his

fingers together, making a point.

Bo looked thoughtful for a moment. “Yea, that’s right. I guess I

  1. But hell, I’m almost 20, so I still got to live a little. And don’t

lecture me, mister shiny shoes and well pressed uniform. Shouldn’t

you be out of the Marine’s already? You’re what, almost 21

yourself?”

“Its called graduating. And yes, I have. For about 9 months now.”

John slapped his hand against Bo’s forehead as he heard the

doorbell ring.

“That would be Hope. Tell her I’m waiting upstairs.” He waggled

his eyebrows and took the stairs two at a time. John waited until

he was upstairs before going over to the door.

“Tell me why I’ve settled for the younger brother instead of the

older one, please.” Hope eyed John like he was a piece of candy.

“Maybe I’ll just tell your date to forget it.” She smiled and stood

on her tiptoes as she kissed him on the cheek.

“Bo’s upstairs. By the way, where is my date?” John wondered,

looking over Hope’s shoulder, expecting to see someone else out

there.

“She’s running late so she’ll just meet us at the restaurant,” Hope

explained, making her way inside. “Bo Brady, you better be ready.”

She stomped up the stairs. John couldn’t help but smile… missing

his love. He thought of her and how they used to be together. So

carefree and loving like that. Not a care in the world. Then, they

hit some bumpy rocks along the road and couldn’t handle it. He

knew she was scared, that’s why she backed away and kept him at

arms length. Except she had been doing that for a few months

now and he was beginning to lose hope. He dropped his head

lightly when he heard his cell phone ring the “Bad Boys tune” from

the infamous “COPS” show. Thinking now, more than ever it

could be who he was thinking of, he ran for the phone, not

wanting to miss this call.

“Hello?” He almost yelled into the phone, almost out of breath.

“Bad timing?” Roman asked.

“Oh hey, Bro. No, I wasn’t expecting you. How’s Paris?” He tried

not to sound disappointed that it was his older brother instead of

his ex-girlfriend.

“It’s great. John, you would love it. So many women, so beautiful

out here.” Roman could tell he wasn’t in the mood to listen.

“John, hey, are you there?”

John watched Bo and Hope come down the stairs, holding hands.

“Yes, Roman, I’m here.” Bo immediately shook his hands, mouthing

‘no’. “Want to talk to Bo?”

“Yea, sure. I want to tell him…” Roman started when John cut

him off. “Uh, actually, Roman, Bo isn’t here right now. I’m

meeting them at a restaurant. I’ll tell him to call you,” John said,

hanging up.

“You owe me, big time,” he told Bo as they headed out.

~

“Where is she?” Hope looked around the crowded restaurant. Bo

tapped his foot impatiently as John yawned and glanced up at the

clock.

“Come on, Baby, can’t we get a table? John can wait for his date.

We’re never going to get a table,” Bo complained, watching as

another couple got seated.

Hope gave John a sympathetic look. “Go ahead.” John smiled,

making her feel better. “I’ll wait for my date, then we’ll find out

where you’re seated. Don’t worry about it.”

She smiled at him and squeezed his arm as Bo practically dragged

her to the table the waiter was leading her to.

‘Why are you here, John?’ He asked himself, looking around. ‘You

just got out of a relationship with the only person you’ll ever love.

The only person who you can see yourself marrying and having

kids with. And yet you’re dating again and you don’t even know

who the girl is.’ John shook his thoughts away. ‘Get a grip!’ He

yelled at himself, straightening his tie. “It’s not the end of the

world.” He told himself, feeling a presence behind him.

He turned and looked at the most gorgeous woman he had ever

laid eyes on. He stared in shock, taking her in. Her dress sandals

weaved around her slender foot, threatening to be covered by

the beautiful light purple gown that flirted with her ankles. His

eyes traveled up her body, trying not to stare at the top of the

dress that gave way to smooth cleavage. His eyes met her hazel

ones as he glanced up at her tanned face. All he wanted to do

was run his fingers through her blonde, silky hair, feeling it

against him.

“Or maybe it is.” He gulped as she grinned at him.

A smile came to his face. The first real one since they had broken

  1. “Doc? Are you my…?” He stopped short when he realized that

it wasn’t him she was smiling at.

“What? Huh? Oh, hello John.” Her eyes focused on him, and the

smile disappeared. He couldn’t mistake the annoyance playing in

her eyes. And a hint of something else… he couldn’t catch it as

she looked away from him. “I didn’t even realize you were right in

front of me.”

The frown replaced itself on his handsome features. “Oh… I…”

She was looking past him again. He turned and saw what had

caught her eye. An older gentleman, about 8 years older than

John was occupying a seat at the bar. “A little old for you, isn’t

he?” John asked sarcastically, still staring at the man.

“John, honey…” Marlena demeaned him. “Its called maturity. I

understand you wouldn’t recognize that.”

John spun around, facing her. “So, who is the Spick?” John tried

to smile sweetly even though he was angry. Marlena hit him in the

chest and then the arm quickly. “Stop it, John. You know what, I

don’t have time for your games. I have a date to tend to.” She

tried to walk past him, when he grabbed her arm lightly.

He leaned down, his breath hot against her face. She closed her

eyes, trying to focus. “I love you Baby. I always will,” he told her

seriously, then couldn’t help but smile as her eyes snapped open.

She yanked her arm from his grasp. He really meant it. With his

whole heart. In fact, he loved her more than life itself. They both

knew that. But he also knew that that would annoy the hell out

of her.

“Is there a problem?” A voice asked from behind. John swerved

around again and came face to face with the man who obviously

was a little bigger than he was.

Marlena stepped up to them. “Brian, this is my… friend John.

John, my DATE, Brian.” Brian held out his arm to Marlena and

she linked hers with his. John clenched his jaw, his heart aching

as she began to walk away. She didn’t remove Brian’s hand as it

rested on the small of her back.

Suddenly someone came up behind him and grabbed his ass. John

jumped about 5 feet. “Holy crap…” he yelped, turning around to

see Jennifer standing there. She smiled at him and shrugged.

“What are you doing?”

“Well, that’s no way to treat your date, is it?” Jennifer took his

hand.

“You’re my… you’re my… date?” He let out a laugh. This was

crazy. Jennifer? What was going on? He figured this night

couldn’t possibly get worse.

“Well, I’m starting to feel a little offended.” She crossed her arms,

but decided to hit him instead. She swung her purse, hitting him

in the shoulder. He stopped laughing and looked at her. “What

was that for?” He rubbed his arm.

“Get with the program John.” She squished his face in between

her hands, staring at him. “I’m only here to help you make Marlena

jealous.”

“Oh, time out.” John tried to pull away. “You and Hope set this

all up because you knew Marlena would be here? To try and get us

back together.”

“You catch on quickly. See, Jack and Abe are at some bar, Lexie

is out of town doing an internship at another hospital, so I

volunteered.”

“Why?” He couldn’t help but wonder.

“I may be in love with Jack, but you’re hot as hell. So…” Jennifer

saw the look of disbelief on his face.

“This is crazy, Marlena will never go for this.” He started walking

towards the door. Hope gave Jennifer a look and when she

noticed that they had caught Marlena’s attention, she knew she

had to go to all lengths to save John’s hyde.

“No honey, I would rather eat and do some dancing first before

we go. I’m not that easy, you know.” Jen stood in front of him

and wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close to her.

John was surprised as Jen kissed him quickly. “Do you know how

long I wanted to do that?” She teased him, watching his face get

red. Before he could reply, she grabbed his hand. “Come on

honey, lets get a table.”

The night went on slowly, as Hope and Jen talked mostly the

whole time. Bo was just as surprised as John was, not knowing

anything about the situation. John could tell Jen was only

pretending… he just hoped that Marlena couldn’t.

“Lets dance.” Jen pulled him from his seat and to the middle of

the floor. “Jen, no one else is dancing,” John said, looking around

nervously.

“That’s what makes it so romantic. We can make our own music.”

She laughed, feeling how tense John was. “Think we’re making a

scene yet?”

“Oh, I think we got em.” John sighed. He quickly began to realize

all of the others who had also started to dance. Suddenly Jen

shoved him and he stumbled back, running into Marlena and

Brian. “Hey punk.” Brian took a step towards him. Jen intercepted

him as Marlena and John were left standing in front of each

other. When Hope bumped him, he stepped closer to Marlena so

that she had no choice but to wrap one arm around his neck, and

take his other hand.

“I’m sorry about earlier.” John leaned closer to her ear so he

didn’t have to speak too loudly.

“No you’re not,” Marlena replied shortly. As they danced, they

closed the gap between them, neither one consciously aware of it.

“I am. I was just shocked to see…” Marlena pulled back slightly.

“You were shocked to see me with another man, yet you’re here

with one of our best friends. Jennifer of all people?” She was

angry now. And so was John.

“Don’t be a hypocrite, Doc. We’re both here with other people.

Somehow that’s my fault?” She backed away from him. “We’re not

discussing this now.”

“Good, because I don’t want to talk anymore.” John pulled her to

him, crushing his lips against hers. He grazed his tongue against

her lips and she granted him admission. He softened his kisses, as

she pushed her hands on his chest, coming to her senses.

“What the hell is going on?” They parted completely, hearing a

voice boom behind them. “I told you to leave her alone, didn’t I?

Alright boy, you’ve asked for it.” Brian shoved John, then walked

outside.

Marlena slapped John. “Ouch.” John rubbed his cheek. “Doc, I’m

sorry.” He tried to catch her before she ran into the bathroom.

Hope and Jen immediately ran after her.

“I’m leaving,” John sighed, going back to the table to throw down

a few bills. Bo stood up. “Tell Hope and Jen thank you for trying

to get us back together, but its never going to happen.” Bo

patted John on the back and John walked out the door.

The rain was coming down in a hard downpour. It reminded John

almost of a waterfall. Shrugging, he walked out into the rain. The

big droplets soaked his hair and his suit as he walked out to his

Jeep. He searched his pocket for his keys when he heard a few

car doors slam. He looked up, the rain pouring down his face.

Squinting his eyes to see, he made out four men coming towards

him. One of them was Brian. And they looked none to happy to

see him.

“Whats up, Bub?” Brian asked as the other three chuckled,

grinding their fists into their hands.

John dropped his keys and clenched his jaw again. Brian moved

closer to him. “Don’t you think its wrong when some guy hits on

another guy’s girl? Where I come from, we teach boys like you a

lesson.”

The rain was coming down harder now and John had to keep his

eyes squinted unless he wanted a waterfall of water to crash into

his eyes. But he didn’t blink. He just stood there, surveying Brian’s

moves and keeping a watch on the other three guys too. They all

moved in closer, surrounding him. It all started when someone

pushed John from behind and Brian slammed his fist into his

face. John kicked him perfectly in the stomach, his Marine skills

coming in good use.

“Stop it!” Marlena yelled. “John, stop!” She was making her way

out of the restaurant. She sounded very angry and at him! But

for what, he wasn’t the one that had started the fight. “John,

don’t you dare.” Marlena made her way towards them. John

glanced her way, letting his guard down. He wasn’t going to kick a

man when he was down. As he started to walk away, he heard

movement behind him.

All four of them jumped on him, knocking him to the ground, as

they started to pummel him. John got up and fought back as best

as he could until he was hit in the face with a baseball bat, being

knocked to the ground once again.

“Hey!” Bo yelled, running out of the restaurant with Craig behind

him. Brian took Marlena’s hand and he and the other three stood

back.

The parking lot was soon becoming flooded and Bo and Craig

yanked John out from the puddle he was laying in. “I’m okay, I’m

okay.” John sat up, the water washing away the blood as it

appeared on his sullen face.

“Come on, lets go Baby.” Brian pulled Marlena with him.

“No.” Marlena pulled away from him. “The two of you can duke it

out over me. Kill each other for all I care.” She went to the end

of the sidewalk and waited for a taxi.

“Are you hurt badly?” Craig asked, checking out his face and

looking for any other wounds.

“No, I’ll be fine.” John stood up, straightening his posture.

“Are you sure?” Bo looked at John skeptically.

“Bo, I’m fine. I’ll see you at home.” John turned away, picking up

his forgotten car keys, as he made his way to the end of the lot.

“He looks defeated. I wonder if he’s hurt more than he lets on.

They did a number on him,” Craig speculated.

John arrived home. It was still pouring down rain as he hopped

out of his Jeep. He could feel the swelling of his face going down

a little.

He watched the pavement under his feet as he walked up the

walkway, pulling out his keys. Putting the key in the lock, the

door pushed open. It wasn’t even shut.

“Not again,” he sighed, slowly making his way inside.

Suddenly the lights flicked off and he was shoved roughly into

the door, slamming it shut the whole way this time.

His attacker spoke before he had a chance to defend himself.

“You want to work things out, we play by my rules.”

John stood still, pressed up against the door. He wasn’t

threatened at all by his attacker. When she walked away, he began

to breathe again, not able to do so before because of their close

proximity.

The apartment was pitch black and John soon figured out why…

when he heard the loud crack of thunder and saw the light blare

in through the windows when the lightning struck. He wondered

where his attacker had disappeared to, when his inquiries were

confirmed as he saw her make her way back to him, holding a lit

candle.

“Was that necessary?” he spoke finally. When she gave him a

quizzical look, he raised his eyebrow. “Did you have to man-handle

me and throw me against the door like a mad beast?”

She only rolled her eyes. “Get in the kitchen.” He watched as she

headed to the kitchen, the light finally disappearing. Deciding to

be stubborn, he stood there with his arms crossed.

“What for?” he asked, tapping his foot.

“John, get in here now,” Marlena said, clearly not amused and not

in the mood for his childish games.

“No. I’m mad at you.” He leaned up against the door, standing

firm.

“Mad at me? After you acted that way in front of my date?” She

didn’t believe that he was saying this. He started it, didn’t he?

From when she first walked into the restaurant, all he did was

ridicule her date, then try to separate them. ‘Oh don’t start

Marlena. You know you didn’t mind one bit.’ Yeah, well, she wasn’t

going to admit that to him.

“After the way I acted? If you haven’t noticed, your date and his

buddies kicked my ass.” He was reminded of the beating when he

felt the pang in his head. He lifted two fingers and touched his

temple, and felt the warm sticky fluid running down his face.

Marlena sighed. “John please come in here? I don’t want to fight.

I just want to look at your face.”

“Well that hasn’t changed.” He smiled, trying not to fall over

things as he made his way through the living room. He could

almost see her rolling her eyes as she flipped some hair behind

her. She would let out an exasperated sigh, trying not to let him

see her smile.

John began to see the light from the candle. He stood in the

doorway and watched her as she gathered some little things from

the first aid kit she found in the bathroom. The light from the

candle played off her face, showing off her smooth skin. “Are

you going to get over here or just stand there and gawk all night?

Hmm?” She asked him, turning around.

He shook his head and walked over to the island that stood in

the middle of the kitchen. Preoccupied with opening the kit,

noticing he was near, Marlena reached out her arm and gave

John a hard shove, sending him flying into the bar stool. John sat

and had to grab a hold of the island and brace himself… or he

would have been sent flying to the floor. “Ow,” he mouthed,

rubbing his chest. “Hey Doc, how about you take it easy on me?

You know I…” He shut up quickly when he felt the sting from the

peroxide making contact with his open cut. “Ow!” He said it this

time, his hand going up to put pressure on his wound.

Marlena beat him to it, pressing her fingers firmly against his

forehead. “Oh stop it, you big baby.”

“It hurts.” He continued to complain. Waving his hand in the air

to ease the burning feeling, he yelled out.

“Oh stop…” Marlena pushed his hands away, putting her lips to it

lightly without realizing what she was doing. She surprised

herself, but even more, John. He stopped complaining, and sat

there in shock as she pulled away. “Better?” She asked, pulling

back from him.

He gulped. “Much,” he managed to croak out. Marlena was glad

he couldn’t see the blush that rose up on her cheeks. “You’re

done. You can go now.” She turned away but he grabbed her arm,

pulling her in between his legs as he sat on the bar stool.

“Don’t…” Marlena began to protest, sensing what he was up to.

He ignored her and took advantage of her close proximity.

John grabbed on to her shirt, closing the gap between them. His

lips met hers softly, testing the waters. He kissed her slowly and

passionately, and then pulled back, waiting for her reaction. When

he saw her eyes boring a hole into his own, he resisted cringing,

wondering how badly she was going to kick his ass.

“Oh come on. You can do better than that.” She wrapped her arm

around his neck, almost pulling him off the chair as her lips

assaulted his, kissing him deeply. Their lips clashed as their

breathing became labored. John pulled her closer, probing her

tongue with his own. Marlena’s hand fumbled with the buttons on

his vest and white shirt. She slipped her hand beneath his

clothing, rubbing it along his hard abdomen.

“You know…” she said, latching onto his mouth again, her fingers

trailing through his short, almost black hair. “This won’t… solve…

anything,” she moaned, as he pulled her as close as he could,

letting her feel the bulge between his legs.

“Yeah… but…” He stood up, lifting her. She wrapped her legs

tightly around his waist. He started to walk from the kitchen.

They bumped into a wall, not seeing where he was going. Marlena

giggled… until John ground his hard-on into her. He continued,

“…we were always… good at this…”

John pressed Marlena up against the wall, moving his hands to

her long blonde locks. His lips played with hers, sucking at them,

then pulling back, going in for more. Marlena got tired of his

games and wanted more. She roughly latched her fingers in his

hair, pulling his face towards her as much as she could. Their

kisses were exotic and wild and Marlena couldn’t get enough of

him. “Oh mmhh…” Marlena moaned. She pulled back, dragging his

bottom lip along until she finally let go. His eyes were still closed,

dazed from what she was doing to him. She grinned at his

reaction, then whispered seductively in his ear, “Take me upstairs,

sailor.”

John could only nod, supporting her weight with his hands again

as he moved away from the wall. He cradled her aroused body to

him as he climbed the stairs to his room. He walked with her into

the room and Marlena kicked out her foot, slamming the door

shut. John put her down, letting her slide back down his body.

Sliding her hands up his taut chest, she slipped her slender hands

over his shoulders, pushing the fabric shirt off him. She relished

looking at his tight chest muscles, her eyes traveling down to his

8-pack and further. Leaning forward, she placed light kisses along

his chest, then down his abdomen. His aching member throbbed

against the fabric of his dress pants. Marlena got down on her

knees and ran her hand up his thigh, then grabbed onto him

through his pants. John let out a loud moan, letting his head roll

back onto his shoulders.

After she undid the buckle on his pants he pulled her back up to

him, kissing her again. He reached an arm behind her back, slowly

pulling the zipper down so that she could step out of her dress.

He stared down at her naked body in awe and took in the sight of

her. “No…no underwear?” he asked, not sure if he should be

turned on or appalled at the thought that maybe this had been

for Brian.

“Well, to be completely honest, I knew you were going to be at the

Blue Note last night. I just didn’t know with who. And I planned

on telling you that… I was going commando, but you made me

angry before I had the chance to make you drool,” she explained

in an almost hushed voice.

“So, you didn’t do this for the sake of maybe ending up with Brian

tonight?” He had to assure himself.

“Of course not. I wasn’t really all that interested in him anyway.”

She touched the bruise on his forehead again and he had to hold

back the gasp of pain that it brought to him. “You should really

get that checked out by a doctor.”

“I already did,” he said, leaning in towards her, tired of all the

talk. Running his lips down her neck, he caressed her breasts with

his hands.

“Oh John…” She moaned as his lips replaced his hands. She

locked her hands through his hair and guided his face.

In one swift motion, he lifted her and guided her to the bed,

settling in between her legs. “Mmmh…I want you…”

“So take me,” she replied huskily, spreading her legs further to

the side.

He positioned himself atop her as he felt her slender leg grasp his

pant leg and professionally slide it down his body. Freeing him, she

began to stroke him, then guided his tip to her opening. John slid

into her softly, opening his eyes to see if she was okay. Marlena

moaned out, not sure if it were because of pleasure or pain. “Oh

God, John.”

She began to move her hips, giving him the initiative to go ahead.

He pounded into her, then pulled out almost the whole way, only

to slam into her again. Marlena tightened her legs around his

waist, scratching her nails down his back as he drove her into

oblivion. “Faster, harder,” she screamed.

John obliged and let his fingers massage her clit, bringing her over

the edge. He continued to pump into her until he too reached his

climax. Their sweat mixed as John collapsed on top of Marlena,

both breathing heavily.

After a while, he lifted his head from her chest and gave her a

chaste, passionate kiss before rolling off of her. “Mmm…”

Marlena said tiredly, laying her head on his chest. She draped a

leg over his waist and fell into a peaceful slumber.

~

Marlena awoke to the loud, shrill rumble of thunder. She sat up

in bed, glancing out the window as the room lit up with blue from

the lightning.

She jumped as the thunder came louder, followed quickly by the

lightning again. It seemed to be even louder than it was before.

She always hated thunderstorms and this time was certainly no

exception.

This time the thunder hit so loud she could barely hear herself

think. “John.” She jumped and crawled toward his back that was

facing her. “John,” she whispered, frightened. “Are you sleeping?”

He mumbled, not turning over. “Yeah, Doc. Go back to bed.”

“John, its storming out.” She snuggled up to him, looping her

arms through his and played with his chest hairs.

He nodded his head. “That’s nice.”

“John…” She began to get that pouty tone in her voice. She

smiled evilly and slid her hand from his chest, down his abdomen

and let her hand disappear under the waistband of his sweatpants.

“Oh… Jenn…” he moaned. She pulled her hand back and sat up in

shock. Slapping his bare back she yelled, “John!”

He rolled over and gave her a sly smile. “Yes Dear?” He couldn’t

help but laugh at her expression. She was so cute when she was

angry at him and for the life of him he just couldn’t take her

seriously right now.

“That was not funny.” She hit him again. “I thought you were

sleeping the whole time.”

“I know.” He laughed again. “Oh, I’m sorry baby.” He pulled her

back down onto the bed. “You know I was only kidding.”

The thunder hit again and felt like it rumbled the whole house.

Marlena shook and John noticed, wrapping his arms around her.

He pulled her against his chest and ran his hand softly along her

back.

She slid her leg in between his subconsciously. When she felt the

hard bulge, poking into her leg, she lifted her head and raised her

eyebrow in his fashion. “Well, I’m sorry if I can’t seem to get

enough of you.”

“No you’re not. You enjoy every minute of it.” She straddled him,

grinding against him.

He let out a moan. “Don’t you?”

“You know it.” She leaned down, finding his mouth in the

darkness with her own. John bunched his shirt that she was

wearing up around her waist. He lifted her hips and let her slam

down onto him. “Oh, Doc…” He let his head fall back onto the

pillow.

Marlena ran her nails down his bare chest, rocking into him. She

tossed her head back as she moved her hips up, then pounding

down onto him.

John’s hands slid up to her breasts and kneaded them firmly,

pinching her nipples. He sat up quickly, latching onto one breast

with his mouth, sucking and pulling at the skin, scrapping his

teeth along it lightly. He gave the other one just as much

attention. Marlena began to go faster and John decided to help

her as he grabbed onto her hips, bringing her down on him harder

and faster.

“John…John…John…” Marlena said over and over.

“Yell it,” he whispered into her ear. “Yell my name.” He moved his

hands over her ass, rocking her into him. They both began to

reach their peaks. John yelled out, trying to stifle his screams by

kissing her. Marlena responded, slipping her tongue inside his

mouth and using it to suck on his. She felt herself get nearer and

nearer to the brink, and finally yelled out his name. “John!… Oh…

mmm…” she moaned, coming down from her high.

They both breathed heavily, leaning their foreheads together.

John pushed some sweaty hair from Marlena’s face. He laid back

onto the bed, pulling her with them and once again they fell into

their blissful sleep.

The next morning, John woke up to a dim, almost dark room. He

glanced at the clock and realized it was 9 in the morning. He

sighed contently, remembering he had at least another half an

hour before he had to be back at base.

“Doc, I’m…” He rolled over to see that she wasn’t there. Sitting

up abruptly, he looked around the room. Only his clothes littered

the floor and there was no trace that she had been there.

He fell back onto the pillows, disappointed. “It was only a dream,

buddy.” He turned onto his side and punched the pillow beside

him, hearing the crumple of a piece of paper. “Or maybe not.” He

mumbled, lifting the small, square paper.

John,

I’m sorry I had to tell you like this.

I wanted to wait until you woke up but

I realized I can’t look at your hurt face

when I tell you this can’t work. Don’t

you realize that this is all we will have?

The only thing we seem to have in

common is what happened between us

last night. I love you, I always will, but

I’m not sure how we can make this work.

I hope you understand and I’m sorry.

Love,

Marlena

John felt the tears burn his eyes as he crumpled the note and

threw it across the room. “No!” He yelled, tossing his pillow into a

lamp, sending it crashing onto the floor. He buried his face into

the comforter that bunched up around him as the tears came.

“No, Doc. I love you. Don’t run.” He cried, feeling in his heart

that it was really over. Despite what she may say, she really does

know him well and she was probably long gone out of town,

knowing he would find her and make her change her mind. That

realization hit him hard and he felt like his heart had been torn

from his chest. What now?

A few months later…

“Heyyy!!!” John yelled, as he looked at Abe while tapping Shane

with his duffel bag. “Heyyyy!!” He screamed louder, starting to run

after the train that began to pick up speed away from the station.

Shane and Abe picked up their duffels and chased him through

the station. John held onto his cap, hitching his duffel up his

arm, as he dodged tourists and kids who were hanging out.

John caught up to the train, struggling to keep up. “Stop!” He

knew no one could hear him, especially since he was behind the

train. He tossed his bag onto the train, then grabbed onto one of

the ladders. He turned and held out his hand to Abe and Shane…

who made it also. “Well, if that wasn’t something out of a movie,”

Shane chuckled, his breathing labored.

John sat, slouched against the back of the train. He looked up

and smiled when Shane and Abe started to laugh. “So how many

other best friends do you have that can get you into this much

trouble as I can?”

“Come on, let’s go give the guy our tickets before we get thrown

from the train,” Shane suggested, standing up. They deposited

their bags in the bag car and made their way to the front of the

train.

“Are you serious?” Abe asked under his breath. They walked into

the train car that was filled with crying babies, kids running

around chasing one another and mothers drinking tea, chatting

with one another.

“I’m outta here.” John turned, heading for the door to enter

another car.

“Where are you going?” Shane pulled on his arm. “All the other

cars are full. Sit.” Shane shoved him into a seat near the window

as he went to give the man their tickets.

John took his cap off and rubbed his face. Women loved this

uniform more than he did, that was for sure. He couldn’t

understand it. It was uncomfortable and he had to be so careful

to not drop something on it or wrinkle it. He sighed and rubbed

his face, eager to get off this train already.

Suddenly he felt a tug on his pant leg. He looked down and saw a

little girl staring at him with tears in her eyes. He looked around,

wondering where her mother was. ‘What am I supposed to do?’

John looked down at her again. “Hey, whats wrong?” he asked

softly, more calmly than he felt at the moment.

Her eyes got bigger and a tear streaked down her face, the only

one. John could tell she wanted to say something to him, but

when her mouth opened, no words came out. He scooted closer

to the edge of his seat. The little girl took a step backwards and

limped on her leg. She lost her balance and would have tumbled

on the ground had John not grabbed her first. Glancing down,

John caught sight of the deep cut on her knee, a trail of blood

flowing down her leg onto her sandals.

He furrowed his brow and got up from his seat. She interpreted

his intentions and immediately held her arms up to him. John

lifted her and she laid her head down to rest on his shoulder, all

those talks about not speaking to strangers forgotten. She felt

safe with him for some reason. “Where is your Mommy?” John

asked her.

She pointed over his shoulder. John turned around and came

face to face with the only love of his life; the one that had run

out on him only months before.
