The knock on the door caused Tony Dimera to rose his head from the paper he was studying “Come in” he said while putting his papers aside. “Marcus said you wanted to see me” replied the other man “Yes as a matter of fact I wanted to see you John. Please close the door and sit down. I want to talk to you about something really important”
“Well what is this so important you wanted to talk to me?” John Black asked curious who was sitting across from Tony who was staring at him. After few moments of silence Tony asked “How many years do you work for the Dimeras John?” “Ten years” “Yes that’s right and during all that time we became more than just friends, we became brothers right?” “Yes that’s right Tony. We grew up together. Your father Stefano took care of me when my parents died. I would be dead if it wasn’t for him” “Yes father was very good to both of us and I still can’t get over his death. These d**n cops shoot him in cold blood. d**n them!!!” he said hitting his fist on the desk. “Don’t worry Tony we will get our revenge for his death” John said smiling cruelly.
“So that’s the reason you wanted to talk to me? About Stefano?” “No not about that. It’s something different. I have a big problem and I need your help desperately. I don’t trust anyone but you and I really would like if you would do this job for me” “What kind of job is this? Smuggling?” “No it’s a little bit more difficult. I want you to kill someone for me!” he said staring John in the eyes. “That’s it? I don’t understand why you were so hesitant asking me that. You know I will do it. After all it’s not the first time” “Yes I know John but this time it’s different” “How come?” “Because I want you to kill a woman…” “A woman..” “Yes she is trouble for me and I want her dead” “Ok ..and who is this woman?” “My girlfriend..Marlena Evans. I want you to kill Marlena”
“You looked surprised John” “Well I am” “And why?” “I never was expecting to hear something like that. Why do you want her dead?” “She is trouble” “Yeah you already said that, but you never said the reason” “She knows that my business are illegal and now that bitch wants to go to the police to report it”
“What?” A surprised John asked “Yeah. I tried to talk to her, I begged her, I threatened her but she is determined to go” “ Hmm did you try with jewels? I know that woman love that kind of stuff” “I tried that also Johnny but she said that she won’t accept it because this is blackmail and after that she is more determined to expose me” Tony said in frustration. “Wow she is feisty” John replied sarcastically. “Wonder why I never met her. Don’t worry Tony she can’t do anything” John tried to reassure him watching his friend sigh heavily “You own the police, no one is gonna put you away” “I’m not so sure…I don’t own the whole police you know…there are a few there that want me behind bars and I won’t let that happen because of a bimbo”
“Oh I can’t believe that she has you so frightened” John said seeing his friend in that situation for the first time. He was literally squirming, a panic expression on his face. “So will you do it? Will you kill her?” “You know I wonder why you aren’t doing it yourself. I know you want to” “Believe I do want to wipe away that….from the face of the earth but then I’m going to be put away. She threatened me. Please John you have to do this favor for me. Will you kill her?” “Of course. Don’t worry about anything. Marlena Evans in few days won’t even exist anymore” he said laughing cruelly.
Chapter 3
“Sorry for the interruption” said Tony while putting the receiver on its place. “No problem. So is everything ok?” asked John concerned “Of course, everything is going according to schedule” “Good” “Yes. So where were we before the phone call?” “You were telling how to kill Marlena Evans. Have you found a way?” “As a matter of fact I did” replied Tony proudly “I know the perfect way for you to kill her without causing suspicions” “Great” replied John with excitement “let me hear that plan of yours ” “You want some whisky?” “Whisky?” asked John surprised “Yes whisky, it’s going to be a long night and we need something to keep us up” “Sure” answered John taking the glass from Tony “So here is the plan to kill that bitch”
“You will make it look like a robbery” “A robbery?” “Yes. You will go to the house around 2 in the night, she will be sleeping at that time, and you kill her. But to make it look like a robbery you have to steal few things and trash the house. So when the police starts the investigations, they will immediately think that it was a robbery. So what do you think? Can you do it?” “Of course Tony. No problem at all. I have dealt with worse cases than this, so Marlena Evans won’t be a problem at all” John replied winking at Tony mischievously “I knew I could count on you brother” Tony said rising from his chair moving towards John and shaking his hand “Always Tony. You know that we will be brothers forever. I will never let you down”…
The next night….
It was 2 in the night and John was trying to open the door of Marlena’s house. Once he succeeded he went inside and looked around. The house wasn’t that big but it sure was cozy and clean. After he trashed it, he headed to her room, on the second floor. Tony had described him where every room was so that John wouldn’t have any troubles. He passed the first door, which was the guestroom and went to the second, which was her room. Slowly he opened the door and immediately the sent of lilacs hit him. Her perfume he thought. He went inside and looked around. Although the room was dark and only the moon was shining down there, he could see what was there. He saw her dresser and went towards there. Upon there were few items, like her brush, her earrings and her perfume. He picked the bottle and smelled the scent of the lilacs. The scent, so feminine, that John closed his eyes surrendering to it not realizing what he was doing.
Realization hit him only when he saw the light turn on and the woman he was about to kill coming out of the bathroom wearing a silk negligee. “Oh my God!” a terrified Marlena said when she saw who was standing in front of her.
John was so caught that he didn’t see that Marlena wasn’t in her bed but in the bathroom. Panic overcame him and he immediately went towards her backing her up against the door and closing her mouth with his hand. “Shut up you hear me? You make a sound and I’ll kill you, you understand me?” he asked furious. Furious more with himself, that everything was going wrong. He was supposed to kill her and leave, and not get caught by her and especially without wearing a mask on his face. Marlena was terrified that she was shaking as tears were coming down from her eyes. “Please don’t kill me..” Marlena said once John took his hand from her mouth “I’ll do anything but please don’t kill me”
John was watching how her hands were clenched into fists, how her lips were trembling and how her chest was falling and rising underneath the thin silk negligee. She raised her teary eyes and looked at him in the eyes. “Shit” he said angrily. That was the last straw he had, which pushed him to do something that he would normally never do. He took her hand and dragged her out of her room and her house….
Chapter 4
“Get out!” John said while he opened the car door for Marlena to step outside. “Now!” he said angrily when she didn’t move from her seat. “Why?” she whispered. “Don’t start questions just do what I told you”. Seeing that she was hesitant, John grabbed her from her hand and dragged her out of the car shutting the door hard .
“Where are you taking me?” Marlena asked as John was pulling his key out of his pocket and was opening the door. “I told you not to ask questions” he said getting more and more angry with her and with himself for getting involved in this crazy situation.
“Follow me” he said while heading to the stairs of the house. “No” “No?” “No, I’m not going anywhere. What I’m I doing here and most important who are you?” “I’m the one that saved your little ass tonight” he said while glancing her up and down. In his rush to get her out of the house, he forgot that she was wearing only her negligee “You saved me tonight? From who?” “Can’t you guess?” “Oh my God..Tony?” a shocked Marlena asked. “Oh dear god you are working for Tony” Marlena said while starting to shake uncontrollably. “Tony asked from you to kill me. That’s why you were at my house tonight. Oh Jesus you are really sick you know that? Just like that f**king SOB” she said brushing her tears away. “Shut up you hear me? Don’t get me pissed alright?” “Or else what are you gonna do? Kill me? Well that wouldn’t be the first time for you…”
“Lets go” he said taking her arm “Don’t touch me!” Marlena said yanking her hand away. “I said lets go” John said taking her hand and dragging her all the way the stairs and to the end of the hall to the last room. “Stay here” he ordered her. “I’m not staying anywhere with you! You are a murderer. You make me sick!” “Look if you don’t stay here, Tony is gonna find out that you are alive and then he will kill you for sure” “And why do you care if he kills me or not, after all you were the one that agreed to do his business. You are just as bad as him” “Stay in your room” he said stepping out of the room and closing the door behind. “Pfff that’s great just great” Marlena said sitting on the bed crossing her hands in front of her chest and sighing heavily
John went to his office and after he locked the door he reached for the phone. He dialed a number and waited few seconds, which for John were like hours, “Tony it’s me, I need to talk to you immediately”…
Chapter 5
“Where are you going?” Marlena asked seeing John putting his jacket on and grabbing his car keys. “Out” he replied not in the mood for chitchat. “Out? You can’t leave me here alone?” “Why not? Are you afraid of the dark?” “Its 3 in the night” “Well, we murders never sleep” he replied sarcastically “Oh and by the way try to wear something else, this negligee is to thin, you will catch a cold with that thing not to mention its see trough” he replied while gazing her up and down “What? It is not see through” she protested. “Well whatever you say. I’m out of here, but if you change your mind there are some clothes in the closed. See you later and please don’t try to run away because that would be a very stupid move. See ya!” with that he left shutting the door behind him. “Hmm is the negligee really see trough?” she wondered while glancing her figure on the mirror that was there.

“So how did it go?” Tony asked seeing John entering the room. “I need a drink” he said moving towards the brandy and purring in his glass” Tony was eyeing him carefully while John was drinking his brandy.
After he finished he went to sit on the leather chair across from Tony. “Well?” Tony asked starting to become impatient. “I went there…” “And?”….”And I killed her” he said feeling bad for having to lie to his friend, his brother. “Oh that is great bro. Isn’t it?” he asked seeing John having a blank expression. “Of course..” “Well you don’t sound to enthusiastic” “I am. I guess I’m just tired” “How did you kill her?” Tony asked anxious to hear the details. “I shot her and disappeared the body” “Excellent Johnny! I teached you well. You didn’t have problems right?” “No everything went according to schedule” he said while remembering the moment Marlena caught him because he was too distracted with that damn perfume “You look tired why don’t you go to sleep?” Tony suggested, “Yes you are right. Goodnight Tony, see you tomorrow” “Goodnight and Johnny?” “Yes?” “Are you sure you are alright?” “Of course Tony. Why wouldn’t I? See you tomorrow” with that John left leaving a worried looking Tony behind.

When John returned home, the familiar scent of lilacs hit him again. He slowly closed the door behind him and caught Marlena sitting near the window, a blanket on her feet, wearing his clothes on and staring out of the window; the lights were dim while from the radio Enrique Iglesias was singing the Hero. He was staring at her for long minutes how she was looking out of the window while she was listening to the music humming the song

John was still standing at the entrance and staring at her debating if he should talk to her or just let her in peace when she continued to sing the next part. He decided not to talk just let her continue. There was something beautiful about this picture…

Chapter 6
John’s senses increased when he saw Marlena coming towards him. “What are you doing?” he asked. Marlena didn’t reply, she just moved more closer to him standing now in front if and looking him square in the eyes. John was about to ask her again when she said “ I’m closing the cd player” and she didn’t lie. When he turned his head he saw that she pushed the off button of the CD player. After that, she returned again towards the window turning her back to him.
“Why did you close the music?” “Because I know that you don’t like balands, so why bother you with it?” she answered still not turning towards him dieing to learn where he went. As if reading her thought he asked “Do you wanna know where I went?” “I don’t really care” she lied “I don’t care about your illegal businesses” “I went to see Tony”
Although she didn’t turn around, John could see that she tensed when she heard that name. “When is he coming to get me?” she asked “Tomorrow morning or right now?” wrapping her arms around her in an attemp to stop the shivering. “You deserve congratulations you know” she continued, “Yeah? And why is that?” “I mean you pretended to save me, you bring me here and then you go back to him to inform him where I am so he can get me” “You don’t know the facts so I suggest you keep quiet” “You can’t tell me what to do and and what not! You are nothing to me! You are just a murdered” “Shut up Marlena” he yelled grabing her from her arms, squeezing them hard, “Just shut your f** mouth”.
He only realized how much he was hurting her, when he saw tears coming down from her eyes. He immediately released her “Umm I’m sorry, I know I shouldn’t..” “GO TO HELL!” she yelled storming out of the room and going towards hers, locking the door behind her.

“Go away” Marlena said when she heard a knock on the door. That didn’t stop John and he went inside ther room “How the Hell did you get inside?” she asked jumping out of the bed. “I know many tricks. Have you forgotten? I work for Tony!” “And you are proud of it? I think this is sick!” “Look, I didn’t came here to talk to you about my relatioship with Tony” “Then why did you come? What the hell are you doing?” she asked when she saw him sitting on her bed. “I’m sitting on the bed isn’t it allowed? Look I came here to talk to you abou my meeting with Tony and I would appreciate it if you would let me finish this time…I went to Tony and I told him that I killed you” “Why would you tell him such a lie? After all, like you said you work for him” “First of all I begged you to keep quiet but you didn’t, and that is annoying, and secondly I told him this lie because I don’t want to kill you. “ “Well isn’t what you do? Kill I mean?” “I don’t kill all the people you know…” “But you kill” “I only kill the bad guys” “But you are a bad guy too” “Look, you don’t have to know so many things exept for the fact that I lied to Tony to save your little tight ass. So you should be greatfull to me and not accuse”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to yell at you, it’s that I’m frighten with this whole situation” “I can understand” “So what happens from now on?” “You will live with me. I’m not so thrilled either with that” he said when he saw how huge her eyes went “But right now we don’t have another choice. We have to wait some weeks and then I’ll try to help you escape from the country” “From the country? And where should I go?” “Dunno” “You don’t know? I thought you knew everything” “we will find a solution for that” “I just hope Tony doesn’t find the truth” “We will make sure that he doesn’t” “And if he does?” “Then he is going to kill us both” “Why do you want to help me?” “Because I am a nice guy despite what you think of me. I would never allow an innocent person to get killed. Look its late, we should sleep and we will talk tomorrow again” “Yes you are right. Umm..Thanks” “Yeah. Night” “Night” “Oh and something else. My name is John”..
Chapter 8
Marlena was lying in bed, hearing the water from the shower running. She closed her eyes and turned from the other side; her mind wondering to yersterday’s events. “Gosh Marlena you’ve lost it completely. Sleeping with John?” She still couldn’t believe that she made love so willingly with a man she hardly knew, second was working for the bad guys even if he was trying to save her from Tony and third and more important was an arrogant SOB under her opinion. She was trying to find the reasons which drove her to make that stupid mistake. Tireness? Just because he saved her? Lack of sex? Or was it because John was looking so damn good?
“Oh Geez Marlena stop that!!” “Stop what?” She was so deep in thoughts that she didn’t realize John finished with his shower and was standing infront of her clad only with a towel “God you scared me don’t do that!!” “Do what?” “Never mind” she tried to cover herself more securly with the sheet. She was staring at him, perfect chest, perfect shoulders, she could see what she did to him during their activities last night, he had marks on his chest and perfect face. She could feel her cheeks burning and she turned from the other again to hide it from him. John kicked with his foot the bed “What?” “we aren’t here on vacation , so take your shower and get dressed. We have to leave soon”
she felt hurt that he didn’t mention anything about last night “Fine!” she wrapped the sheet again more tight around her and went to the bathroom. She locked the door, removed the sheet and stepped into the shower, closing her eyes as soon as warm water fell on her. She was mumbling to herself “What did you expect Marlena? That he would say how happy he is ? How great he found it? Gosh girl get real! He is a criminal! He doesn’t mean anything to you and you don’t mean anything to him”
After she decided to forget last night’s incident, she finished with her shower, got dressed and came out to John who was checking the room, to make sure he didn’t forget anything. “Are you ready Princess?” In different circumstances hearing someone calling her that way would flatter her but hearing John Black saying it and seeing the smirk on his face, angered her, she just wanted to scream and knock his lights out but she wouldn’t give him that satisfaction. She gathered her things and replied quietly “Ready” “Ok let’s go we have a long day Princess” That was it she couldn’t take it anymore “My name is Marlena you idiot not Princess” John just continued to have that smirk on his face “Pff” was all Marlena could say leaving the room and John standing there and shutting the door behind her.
