The Bodyguard – Evansblack

“Mr. Black, this one came in for you,” said John’s secretary and then handling him a package. “Thank you, Louise.” John said as his secretary went back to her desk outside of his office. John didn’t open the package immediately, he just stared at it until he ran out of names of people who he knew would send him a gift without any reason. He thought that the package was from one of the women that he had dated while he was out of Salem. Maybe it was from Kristen, or Diane, or Isabella, or from Kate. He didn’t know for sure but he was intrigued by the content of the package. So he ripped the wrapper and opened the box, only to find a single note on it. YOUR DAYS ON EARTH ARE NUMBERED. John immediately dialed Salem PD’s number and asked for Abe Carver to get down on his office. He was very nervous. This was the very first time for him to receive a threat. He couldn’t think of someone who might be his enemy. He never had any enemies. Well, maybe there were a few – those businessmen that he stepped over when he tried to do some merger or when he tried to buy out their company; or it could be one of the women that he dated and left behind after a one night stand. Well, the possibilities are endless. After 30 minutes, John heard a knock on his door, and in came Louise. “Mr. Black, Mr. Carver and Detective Brady are here to see you.” “Send them in and bring us some coffee.” Louise left and entered Abe and Roman. “Commander Carver, Detective Brady, thank you for coming on such a short notice. Won’t you sit down?” Roman and Abe sat down opposite John. “My secretary will be bringing in some coffee.” “OK, let’s get down to business, you told me on the phone that you received a threat?” “Yeah, here it is,” John gave Abe the note and the package. “Would you happen to know who could have sent you this? Have you had any enemies?” “None that I think of.” “Well, we’ll be running some tests to see if the one who sent this to you has left any mark on it.” Abe said. “Thank you very much,” John replied. “Abe, I think we should give Mr. Black here some protection. Someone who could look after his safety without being noticed.” Roman suggested. “You mean, you want me to have a bodyguard?” “Not just a bodyguard, Mr. Black. But the best in the business.” “That’s a great idea Brady. I think I just have the right and perfect person in mind.” “Don’t tell me you’re gonna get Evans out here?” “Yes. Evans is perfect for this undercover job. No one could suspect Evans.” “Well, that’s great! It’s settled then. I know that you will give me your best officer! When will I meet this Evans guy?” John asked the two men, who started laughing when they heard the word ‘guy’. “What’s the matter? Why are you 2 laughing?” “Nothing. I guess ‘Evans’ will be reporting in your office tomorrow morning at 0800 hours.” Abe replied. “OK, I’ll expect him tomorrow morning here. I just have one question.” “what is it?” Roman said. “Can you describe this guy for me?” John said as he was taking a pen and a paper to take notes about his new bodyguard. “Why don’t you describe Evans, Brady?” Abe commanded Roman. “OK, Evans is one of the best in the force. Ranked 1st last year, drafted on the Bureau after graduation, highly skilled in every weapons, you name it Evans can handle it with perfection. Long range shooter, always carries a 9 mm, a black belt in every combat sports, joined the Gulf War at 19, can fly any plane and can drive any vehicle. Evans may seem very arrogant but that’s because of the job. I think I’ll just send you the resume and files about Evans.” “Wow! From the way you describe this guy, I think he’s a very big man.” “You just have to see Evans for yourself. So we’ll be going. I’ll just send the results with Evans tomorrow, OK?” “Thanks. I’ll appreciate all you’ve done here.” After all the pleasantries were given, Abe and Roman left John’s office. John was now relieved of the fear that someone was after his life, since Commander Carver had promised that he would send him a bodyguard.

Meanwhile, on their way to the police station, Abe and Roman couldn’t stop laughing. “What do you know? John Black thought that our Evans is a HE!” Roman said in between his laughs. “And now, when he sees her tomorrow, he will be freaked out because he’s expecting someone who look like Arnold Swarzenegger! Oh God, I wonder what will happen tomorrow when those 2 met!” Abe said as he pulled in at the station’s parking lot. They went to their respective offices and Abe immediately asked for his best officer – Agent Marlena Evans.

Abe was told that Marlena was in the shooting room, so he went in there to give Marlena her newest assignment and her newest charge. He watched Marlena practicing and clapped as he entered the room. “That was very good, Evans! You never fail to amaze me and the rest of the officers here.” “Hey, Abe. What’s up with you?” Marlena said as she took off her earpiece and reviewed her shots. “Well, I have some news for you. I instated you to be Mr. John Black’s undercover bodyguard.” “A bodyguard?! From whom does this Black need a bodyguard on?” Marlena said, a bit irritated as she reloaded her gun and prepared to do another practice again. “Mr. Black received a package this morning with no name or address written of who the sender is. And the note said it all and the message was written by blood.” “So, why’d you pick me? I’m sure Brady wanted the case, so why not give him this job?” Marlena said as she took 5 consecutive shots, all hitting the bull’s eye. “Because you are my top agent, that’s why. And you are the only agent that can do this job without blowing your cover. No one will suspect that you are a bodyguard.” “Because I am a woman! You forgot that one.” “SO, you in or out?” “You know I can’t pass an interesting case like this. OK I’m in. By the way, does Mr. Black know that I’m a SHE?” “No. Just surprise him tomorrow on your appointment with him. Be at his office at 0800 hour. Are we clear officer?” “As clear as the bull’s eye, Commander Carver.” “I know I can count on you.” Abe said as he exited the shooting room, leaving Marlena alone. “So, how did she take it?” Roman asked Abe as he saw him exiting the shooting room. “She accepted the case.” “That’s it? Just like that? No arguments or whatsoever?” “Yes.” “Wow! She really is reformed.” “Has the results from the lab in?” “Yes. And they didn’t find any marks on it. But they were sure that the blood is not from human.” “OK, send the results in my office, will you?” Abe said as he proceeded to his office.

Roman saw Marlena exiting the shooting room. “Hey, Evans, how are you doing today?” “I’m just fine Brady. Just fine.” “I heard about your new assignment. Good luck with it. Make us proud.” “You know I will. So this Black doesn’t know that I’m a woman, huh?” “Yes. We, Commander Carver and I, tried to conceal our laughter when he referred to you as a HE. Anyway we didn’t bother to correct him with you being a woman. He actually thought that you are this very big and strong man who could protect him from time to time. Commander Carver gave him some of your background that led him to believe that you are a man.” Roman said smiling. “Oh really? Well, thanks. Now what’s this guy like?” “Well, as you already know, John Black is a walking bank account. He owns almost all business establishments all over the world. A bachelor and, I must warn you, a very certified with a capital P playboy. So don’t get too involve with this guy if you don’t want to be hurt. I read somewhere that he actually dated 5 women at one time. I wonder how he did that?” “Why don’t you ask him? Or maybe, I’ll ask him for you? I’ll just have to use my charms on him.” Marlena said as she sat on her chair. “Charms? What charms? Do you have it?” This gained Roman a slight kick right on his gut. “Get out of here Brady before I aim my gun on you.” Roman left laughing.

The following day, Marlena got up from her bed, took a shower, ate her breakfast, downed her coffee and got dressed for her meeting with her new boss – John Black. She emerged from her bedroom looking very confident. She was wearing her best pair of pant suit, for she wanted to impress her charge – black pants, white crisp dress shirt, black blazer and coat, her babies – 2 9mm guns tucked in her suspenders, and her hair was pulled in a tight ponytail. She looked at herself in the mirror one last time, put her sunglasses and gave herself an approval that she looked alright before she took her keys and helmet and left her apartment.

Meanwhile, at the Basic Black Designs, John was anxiously waiting for his new bodyguard. He already gave Louise an instruction to send Evans in his office when he arrived. Marlena arrived at the Basic Black Building and she parked her motorcycle and went directly at the elevator to John Black’s office. Louise and John were both expecting a male visitor around 8 AM, but Louise was confused to see a woman in front of her, saying that she has an appointment with Mr. Black and it was Commander Carver who sent her here.

“Mr. Black, we do have a slight problem in here.” “What is it?” John said without looking at Louise. “Well, you see, you told me earlier that there will be someone named Evans that will be arriving here, and you told me that once this Evans arrived that I send him in,” “Yes, I remember saying that to you. Why, is he here? Why didn’t you send him in?” John said as he got up from his seat and went out to meet Evans. John was stunned when he saw a woman, wearing a power suit sitting on the lobby and reading a magazine. He was struck by the woman’s beauty and curves. Even in those power suit, she oozed with sexuality. And she was blonde. John loved blonde women. “Where is Evans?” John asked Louise. “That’s the problem sir, that woman sitting over there, she told me that she’s Evans.” John raised his eyebrows and went to Marlena. “Excuse me, may I help you?” Marlena stood and offered her hand for a handshake. “Mr. Black, I’m Agent Marlena Evans. Commander Carver sent me here. I’ll be your new bodyguard.” John, still confused, took her hand and shook it. “I didn’t know that you are a woman. Abe and Brady must have forgotten to tell me that you are a woman.” “They didn’t bother to tell you because you already assumed that I’m this one big man who can protect you. It was Commander Carver’s fault really. He must’ve told you about my involvement in the Gulf War and all stuff that may give you a hint that I’m not a woman.” “And they refer you as Evans so I thought that you are a man. I’m sorry.” “Apology accepted. So, can we go in your office to discuss your case and my plan on keeping you safe?” “Sure, this way please.” John led Marlena to his office and told Louise to bring in coffee and croissants.

“Please sit down.” John told Marlena as he sat across from her. “Commander Carver told me that you received a package from someone and inside it was a note telling you that your days are numbered.” “Yes, that’s true.” “Anyone you know who might send you that note? Business enemies, politicians, girlfriends you left and broken their hearts? Anyone?” “No. I play clean. I don’t know if I have enemies in business, who doesn’t? and about those women, I guess some of them are suspects.” “Why do you say that? Does it mean that you really date women at one time? That you are a certified playboy and womanizer?” “OK, I plead guilty of all charges.” “OK, here’s my plan. For me not to be recognized as your bodyguard, I suggest that we pretend that I am one of your girlfriends. In that way, I could always be near you and I could monitor your every day plans. What do you say?” “That’s a great plan. But is that OK with you? Posting as my girlfriend?” John said with a wicked grin on his face that Marlena noticed. “l do my job professionally. So there won’t be any problems for me. I’ve done this before and the force apprehended the suspect. Maybe it is you who will going to have a problem. With all those girls.” “Let me be the one to face them. All I want is to have this guy behind bars before it’s too late.” “So it’s all settled.” “Yeah, I think it is.” Marlena extended her hand for a handshake and John gave his.

Marlena and John started their charade that very same day. John instructed Louise to help Marlena to pick some of her wardrobe that is appropriate for the events that they will be attending. Louise was the only one on the company who knew about the plan. John also told her to make Marlena look like his girlfriend, and told her what he wanted Marlena to wear – more sleeveless blouses with plunging necklines, short skirts, gowns that compliments her curves, and silk and lacy undergarments. Marlena didn’t know about John’s request, so she just let Louise do what her boss told her. “So, Mr. Black, in order for our plan to work, we should start by getting to know each other. Who knows someone might ask us something and our answers won’t jive.” Marlena suggested. “Sure. What do you want to know? Where do you want me to start?” “Well, anything out in the sun. and you could start from the beginning.” “OK. I’m John Forrest Black, 32 years old, bachelor, son of Christopher and Elizabeth Black. Self-made man, I didn’t ask my parents to help me out when I started my business. I own almost 75% of businesses all around the globe. My prized possession is this company Basic Black Designs. I personally design some of the items here whenever I’m inspired. I love playing baseball and football. I graduated from Harvard with my business administration degree, from Oxford with my political science degree and from USMA where I only took 2 years of the course of military science. I have a brother, named Derek, he’s married with 4 kids and they are living in France. My life is my work. Some people say that I’m a playboy but I’m not. It’s your turn.” John said as he eased on his seat. “Well, I think Commander Carver already briefed you about me. So there’s no need for further elaboration.” “Those were not enough. Do you honestly believe that I would introduce you to my colleagues and tell them that you are an officer of the law and that you have gone to fight for the country in the Gulf War? No way. I want to know you, what you love to eat, what you’re reading, what music do you listen to, everything.” “OK. I get your point. I’m Marlena Serena Evans, daughter of Frank and Martha Evans of Denver, Colorado. I had a twin sister named Samantha but she passed away because of this freak who mistaken her for me. I’m 26 years old. I’ve been in the business for 6 years, the bureau hired me right after I graduated from West Point. I took criminology because I wanted to put criminals away. I love practicing my shooting skills. I don’t know how to cook and I’m a bad singer. I love to read mysteries and autobiographical fiction. My blood type is O, I like my tea with half a sugar spoon. I love Chinese food. My favorite movie is All Our Tomorrows, fave sandwich is pastrami on rye and perfume is…” “Lavender Sky.” John finished for her. “How did you know?” “I personally purchase that perfume.” “I see, you give perfumes to your flavors of the month?” “No, I spray it on my bed. I always love the scent of that perfume.” “So, I think you already know me, Mr. Black.” “I think it’s time for you to call me by my first name. I want you to start calling me John. And would love to call you my pretty lady, is that OK with you?” “I think that you should call me by my first name. No nicknames needed.” “But I want to call you Pretty Lady as my term of endearment for you.” “Whatever you want Mr. Black.” “Excuse me, it’s John, remember that Pretty Lady. OK, so here is my agenda for tonight.” John said as he handed Marlena his planner. “We will be attending a cocktail party, hosted by a friend and business associate of mine, Victor Kiriakis. It will be a formal affair, just celebrating his business’ success in the world market. That will be the place where I will introduce you to the people. That you are my girlfriend. Just prepare yourself for all the questioning, most likely by the media. And speaking of the media, have they interviewed you?” “No, I guess. But I assure you that if they already interviewed me, they won’t recognize me tonight. I look different whenever I’m in my uniform and I usually wear a hat and a sunglasses whenever I work on a case.” “Good, good. Now, Louise will be returning here bringing your whole wardrobe. Just check them out and pick what you like then give her your measurements so that the clothes will fit for you perfectly.” “OK. I hope the perpetrator is also invited.” “I hope so too.”

After 30 minutes, Louise came into John’s room with a baggage full of clothes for Marlena to wear. “Thanks Lousie. Umm, Marlena you can use the bathroom there to fit your clothes, and then I want you to model it for me for my approval.” “Why do I have to do that? I think I can pick out what I want to wear by myself.” “Because you will be my girlfriend, and I want my girlfriend to always look good. Now, please get in there and try out the clothes that Louise picked out for you.” Marlena gave John a look that could kill. John just sat on his chair, imagining what Marlena would look like when she tried all of the dresses that he made Louise picked for her. Then Marlena came out of the bathroom wearing the skimpiest gown she had ever seen. It was a wine-colored, mid-thigh length silk gown, with a plunging neckline and the thinnest straps were the ones holding the whole dress down. It also had a low back, and it looks like it will be removed if you made a wrong turn. John’s eyes were feasting at the sight of her in that gown, and he gulped hard in order for him to speak. “Well, Officer Evans, you look great in that one. I want you to wear that for tonight.” “Excuse me? There is no chance in hell that I’ll be wearing this piece of cloth tonight!” “And why not?” “Because this is not a dress! It is just a piece of cloth held by straps and covers nothing! I think I should be the one picking out my wardrobe.” “I will let you do that, but your clothes should be sexy. And if I don’t like the clothes you chose, you will have no other choice but wear the clothes that I picked out for you, OK? Louise, take her to the storage and let her pick out some dresses.”

Louise led Marlena to the fitting room to try out the other decent dresses there. Louise took her time to apologize to Marlena about her boss’ taste in clothing. “That’s OK. I’ve dealt with the likes of your boss. But in the end, I became the one who ran the show.” “I hope you can tame Mr. Black.” “Why would I do that?” “Because I liked him to be happy for real. He was wasting his time to all those women he used to date who just wanted his money and the fame that his name brings.” “You really liked your boss.” “He’s been a family to me. I’ve been here since he started this and he was just 19 years old. He’s like a son to me. And he knew that I want what is best for him. I’m just concerned for him about this threat.” “I promise you Louise that I’ll do my bets to protect your boss and to get the man who is trying to get him killed.” Marlena smiled at the older woman as they entered the room. Marlena was stunned to see the beautiful gowns hanging in the room. “Pick what you like. I’ll be here to help you with it.” Marlena picked out a Grecian white gown, with a thigh high slit on the right. Marlena put it on and looked at the mirror then went out for Louise to see. The older woman was stunned to see Agent Evans, looking like a Greek goddess, with the dress she was wearing. She was speechless. “Well, is this an OK for your boss?” “Turn around.” Marlena did as she was told. “Perfect. Mr. Black will be speechless when he sees you in it. I suggest that you should not let him see you in it before the party tonight. Surprise him. I’ll tell him that the dress you picked is better than what he chose for you to wear.” Marlena smiled at Louise who went to see her boss. Marlena changed into her suit, sans the coat and went to John’s office.

“So, Louise told me that your dress is perfect for the party tonight?” “Yes. She approved of my choice. And she told me that my choice is better than what you picked for me to wear. So are you gonna pick me at my place tonight, or I’ll go to your place?” “Why don’t we meet at my place. You know where it is?” “Yes. It’s in 25 River Street.” “OK, I’ll see you there at 6:30.” “OK. I’ll be getting ready for the big date tonight.” Marlena put on her coat and her sunglasses and went to the door. “And Mr. Black, it’s nice working with you. I promise that you’ll be protected and that the suspect will be apprehended.” With that said Marlena left the building. John was looking out his window and saw that Agent Evans was ridding a motorcycle. He smiled. He was surprised to see that his bodyguard was a beautiful woman with the body of a goddess, who rode a black Ducati motorcycle. She seemed so independent and so strong for a woman. Maybe John has met his match, through Agent Marlena Evans.

It was 6 PM. John was already dressed up to the nines with his black tuxedo. He was the epitome of true masculinity – tall, dark, handsome, rich and powerful. He looked at himself in the mirror and approved what he saw. He just wished that Agent Evans did her share of the charade. He sipped his brandy while he was waiting for Agent Evans to arrive. Then he heard his doorbell rang and he stood up to answer the door. He was stunned to see Agent Evans, looking oh so good, standing in front of him. Louise was right – he would be speechless when he saw her. “Aren’t you going to ask me in?” Marlena asked John. “I umm, um, come, come in.” “Thank you.” Marlena entered his home and stood up, waiting for him. “Why don’t you sit down? I called my chauffeur, he was just in the gas station. He’ll be here in a minute.” “I see.” Marlena said as she sat down. John saw a glimpse of her tanned thighs when she sat and the slit provided John the sight. He just stared at her, Marlena was beginning to feel uncomfortable. She was not used to being stared at. John sensed her uneasiness and offered her some refreshments. “Would you like something to drink? Brandy, martini?” “Just water. I don’t drink while I’m working.” “Water coming up!” John went into the kitchen to get Marlena a glass of water and to cool down himself. “What’s up with you Black? Why are you feeling this way? Get a hold of yourself!” he breathed deeply and went back to his living room and gave Marlena her glass of water. “Thank you.” Marlena drank her water just in time that John’s chauffeur announced that he was outside. “So, are you ready to rock the house?” John asked Marlena. “As ready as you are!” “Shall we?” John said as he offered his arm to her, which was gladly accepted by Marlena.

Alfred was surprised to see his boss with a stunning date for tonight. They really looked good together. Though he just saw this woman, Alfred felt that she was the one for his boss. Alfred was Louise’ husband. They were the one taking care of John. They wanted the best for him, and they both thought that this woman was the best. Alfred opened the limousine door as John and Marlena approached him. “Good evening, Mr. Black. You are looking good tonight. And so as you’re lovely date.” “Thank you Alfred. And by the way, this is Agent Evans. She’s the one Salem PD sent to be my bodyguard. Marlena this is Alfred Foxx, he’s Louise’ husband.” “Glad to meet you, Mr. Foxx.” Marlena held her hand for a handshake which was accepted by Alfred. “I’m glad to meet you too, Agent Evans.” “Marlena. Just call me Marlena.” “OK, Marlena. So are you both ready to go to the party of the year?” “Yeah, I think we are very much ready!” “So, let’s go!” John held the door for Marlena and then she entered followed by John. Alfred closed their door, and then he went to the driver’s seat and drove his boss and his bodyguard to Victor Kiriakis’ house.

Inside the limousine, John and Marlena sat opposite each other. John couldn’t stop staring at Marlena. She really was beautiful. Marlena caught John staring at her and she just cleared her throat. “Umm, Mr. Black, there’s something that you should know.” “What is it?” “I think the press would recognize me if we use my real name. They interviewed me sometime and I think my name was in the papers.” “So you’re saying that we should use a different name for you?” Marlena nodded. “What do you suggest?” John asked. “Nobody knows my middle name.” “Which is?” “Serena. My whole name is Marlena Serena Evans.” “Serena Evans. That sounds great! So I will call you Serena Evans when we are out in public, but whenever we are in my office I’ll call you Marlena.” “OK.” Marlena looked outside and enjoyed the view of Salem night. “So, what would I call you in front of them?” Marlena asked John. “Well, just call me John.” “OK.” “Do you think the one who sent me the threat will be at the party?” “The odds that he/she will be there is slim, but based on my experience about this thing, most of the suspects wanted to see if their threat affected their intended victim’s life.” John just sat there, staring at her. Then the car stopped and Alfred opened Marlena’s door as John exited the limousine. “Enjoy the evening Mr. Black and be safe, both of you.” “Thanks, Alfred.” Then John turned to Marlena and offered his arm. “Shall we?” Marlena took his arm and sighed. “OK, let’s get the party rollin’.”

The party was roaring. All prominent people were invited – politicians, cops, businessmen, models, actors and actresses. Victor Kiriakis’ party would be the talk of the town for the next 12 months. When John and Marlena entered the mansion, all eyes were on them – men with open admiration to Marlena’s exquisite beauty and jealousy to John, being the one who escorted such beauty; and the women with admiration to John’s masculinity and disdain to Marlena for getting all the men’s attention. John looked around to see some familiar faces. He spotted some of his previous girlfriends – Kristen, Kate and Isabella – all in one table, chatting together. John just led Marlena into the party as his acquaintances greeted them and admired Marlena. Roman Brady was the first to approach them. “Black!!! It’s good to see you here!” they shook hands. “And who is this rare beauty with you tonight?” Roman asked as he set his eyes towards Marlena. “Roman, I’d like you to meet Serena Evans, my fiance. Baby, this is Roman Brady, an outstanding officer of Salem PD.” Roman was smiling to see Marlena in a gown. She was so beautiful. They had to have this conversation just to test Marlena’s plan. Marlena gave Roman a warning stare as to say that he should stop what he was doing in order to make their plan work. Marlena just played along with Roman’s antic. “Glad to meet you Officer Brady.” “So you are Mr. Black’s fiance?” Roman said with a slight smirk on his face. “Yeah, I am.” Then Victor approached them. “John! Thanks for coming over.” “I wouldn’t miss this for the world Vic.” Victor saw Marlena. “And who is this beautiful woman with you Black? Your new flavor of the month?” Victor said as he nudged John. “No. She’s Serena Evans, my fiance.” “John Black’s fiance? You have to be kidding me! He’s joking right?” Victor asked Marlena. “I’m afraid he’s telling the truth MR. Kiriakis. I am his fiance and we are about to get married in a year.” That statement left Victor’s mouth open. He couldn’t believe that John would find someone exquisitely beautiful as this lady in front of him. “Well, I guess I have to take the lady’s word. I just couldn’t believe that John Black, world’s greatest playboy, will be settling down! It must be so hard for you, Miss Evans. To keep him busy, I mean.” “It’s no problem at all.” Marlena replied. “Well, I couldn’t blame John here, even I will stop being a playboy if I have someone as beautiful as you are beside me.” “Thank you.” Marlena smiled. “So, enjoy the party!” Victor said as he left John and Marlena alone. “Whew! That was close!” John said. “Yeah, that was very close. I didn’t know that you would introduce me as your ‘fiance’.” “And I didn’t know that you would buy it and get along with it? Umm, would you like some drink?” “Martini will be fine.” “I’ll get it.” When John left Marlena to get their drinks, Roman was again on Marlena’s side. “So, Evans, you are Black’s fiance?” “Stop it Brady, you’ll blow our cover. So anything out of place here?” “Nope. All’s well. By the way, Evans, you look great in that thing. You should wear that kind of thing often.” Roman joked. “You know, Brady, I have here with me my 9mm, so if you don’t want to have a couple of bullets in your chest, you better move away from me. And if you blow our cover, I’ll hunt you down.” Marlena said as she gave Roman a smile and a look that told him to back off. “OK, OK. But you really look great!” Roman spat as he left Marlena alone. After Roman left her alone, another man came in beside her. “What does an exquisitely beautiful woman such as you, doing here all by yourself?” It was Craig Wesley, one of John’s business partners. “By the way I’m Craig Wesley, and you are…” “I’m Serena Evans.” Marlena shook his hand and then Craig brought her hand to his mouth to kiss. Marlena felt uncomfortable and she was relieved when John came back. John saw what was happening and he also saw that Marlena was uncomfortable with Wesley, so he hurried back to her. “Honey, here’s your martini.” John said as he put his arm around her waist as his other hand gave Marlena her drink. “Thanks, baby.” Marlena said as he placed a soft kiss on John’s cheek. “I see you already met Wesley.” “Honey? Baby?! You two know each other?” Craig asked. “Yes. Craig Wesley, I’m proud to introduce to you my fiance, Serena Evans. Honey, this is Craig Wesley, an associate of mine in Basic Black.” “I already know his name. He introduced himself earlier.” Craig was still standing there, dumbfounded, unable to rationalize how John landed this beautiful creature. “Hey, Wesley, are you OK?” “Oh, umm, yes, I’m fine. And I guess congratulations is in order? When is the big event?” “Next year, sometime during the spring.” “I will see to it that I’ll have the most beautiful gift for both of you. Congratulations again, Black. You sure are a one very lucky man.” Craig said as he left them. “Whew! That was so close! Thanks for rescuing me to him.” Marlena said. “It’s OK. I saw he makes you uncomfortable, so I hurried back. So are there any progress?” “None. I think the suspect is already keeping a low profile. We need to do something in order for him to make his move.” John was staring at her as she was saying something to him. She really is beautiful, John thought to himself, as he continued staring at her. “John? John Black? Anyone home?” Marlena asked him. This brought John back to present. “What?” “I said do you have any plans in mind that could make the suspect make his move?” John though for a moment and thought of something great. “Yeah. I think I have something.” “Well, spill it out. Let me hear it.” “No. it’s a surprise.” “One thing I hate most is surprises. So just spill it out, or you want me to drag it out of you? I tell you it won’t be easy.” “You just have to wait.” Then John heard the band started playing Gardel’s Por Una Cabeza and asked Marlena to do the tango with him. “Shall we?” Marlena just grabbed his arm and she let him led her to the dance floor. They are the only couple in the dance floor and everyone was watching them. They danced the tango magnificently, with John taking all the opportunity to dip and spin Marlena. As soon as the band reached the song’s ending, John spun Marlena a few times, and then dipped her in time with the band’s last notes.

The crowd was mesmerized by the display of tango skills made by John and Marlena. Applause and whistles were the only sound heard in the ballroom of Victor Kiriakis’ mansion. John and Marlena bowed to the audience, acknowledging their appreciation of the dance. And then John left Marlena in the middle of the dance floor, went to where the band was and grabbed the mic. Marlena was confused at what John was planning to do. All eyes were at John, mostly the eyes of the women that he dated previously… Kristen’s, Kate’s, Diana’s and Isabella’s. “Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attentions please. I just want to take this great opportunity to say something very important. As you see, Basic Black Designs was one of the most famous clothing line all over US and Europe, but that’s not what I want to talk about…” “Just spill the beans, Black! We ain’t got all night!” Bo Brady yelled, which garnered a few laughs from the other visitors. “OK, OK, as requested by Mr. Brady, I’ll go straight to the point. What I’m trying to say is…” John started walking towards Marlena. “I want to take this opportunity…” then he was in front of Marlena. “…to ask this exquisitely beautiful woman standing in front of me…” then he knelt and pulled something out of his tux. Marlena got what John was trying to do and she decided to play along with him, acting like an actress who just won the Oscars. “…to become my wife!” John opened the small box containing an 8-carat diamond ring set in platinum. “Serena Craig, will you do me the honor of becoming my wife?” Marlena tried her best to produce a solitary tear on either of her eyes to make the act convincing, and she did. Then John stood up in front of her, wiping the tear that was running from her face. John smiled, he just wished that this was real and not just some act that they would have to end when all of this mess was resolved. “Darling, the crowd and I are waiting for an answer. Will you marry me?” John said laughing. Marlena was so touched, she wished that this was real. She was beginning to have some feelings for John Black, which was a very bad sign. She couldn’t fall in love with her charge, that was her motto. She couldn’t let her feelings interfere with her work, and if she started to get attached to John Black, finding the suspect would be difficult. “Darling? Are you OK?” That jolted Marlena to the present. “What? Oh yes! YES, I will marry you, John Black.” Marlena said and then John grabbed her waist and kissed her. That move stunned Marlena, she didn’t expect that one, but she just let him continue what he was doing. She was enjoying the presence of his lips on her and she thought that John was also having a great time. Of course, John was having the best time of his life. He wanted to do that to Marlena ever since she walked in his house wearing that gown. He really wished that this was not some kind of a charade. He really wanted to marry this woman.

A man was staring John and Marlena since they arrived. He was staring at them from the bar and was amazed at the beauty with John Black. He would have to send them something – as his pre-wedding gift. He was concocting something in his mind as to what his next move would be, until he was interrupted by the bartender. “Can I get you anything, sir?” he looked at the young man. “Scotch on the rocks. Make it a double.” He said as the bartender mixed his drink. “Way to go, Black. You may have all the wonderful things in this world, but I am the one holding your precious life. I can make your life a living hell if I’m inclined to do so,” he said silently while he was holding his drink, and raising his glass towards John and Marlena. He drank the liquor and then dialed his cellphone. “Hey, it’s me. Proceed to phase 2.” Then he hung up and smiled evilly.

John was at another side of the room, talking with his business associates, while Marlena was at their table, being interviewed by the wives of John’s associates. They wanted to know everything about her – how she met him, when she met him, where she met him, where she came from, from what school she graduated, everything and anything under the sun. She was so tired of answering those questions, so she excused herself to go to the bathroom. She was looking for John when a group of women blocked her path. “Excuse me, I need to go over there…” she said. But the women just looked at her from head to foot, like she was their science project. “So, you are John’s fiance? How charming.” Kristen said. “You know, I never thought John will settle for a plain-looking bimbo,” Kate added, mocking Marlena. Marlena knew this game. They were just goading her. “By the way you all speak to me, I guess that you are all John’s ex-girlfriends? Am I right?” she said, with a slight smile. Diana and Isabella both raised their eyebrows. “You don’t know who you are talking to, slut.” “Yes, I do know who I’m talking to. I’m talking to MY fiance’s jealous ex-girlfriends, who can’t accept that a plain-looking bimbo, is the one who caught their ex-boyfriend’s heart.” She smiled at them. “So, if all of you are finished talking to me, you’ll have to excuse me, I have to find my fiance,” she added as she left them fuming at what she said. John saw her at the bar, drinking champagne. “Hey, everything all right?” “Yes. And I had the pleasure of meeting your flavors of the month earlier. Champagne?” she asked. “What?” “I said I had the chance of meeting your ex-girlfriends and they don’t seem friendly. Champagne?” “No, thank you.” He sat beside her, “What did they tell you?” “Nothing. Just girl stuff.” “Girl stuff like?” “Like I’m the plain-looking bimbo who caught your eyes, something like that.” He looked at her. He wanted to go to Kristen’s table and confront them for talking to Marlena like that. They have no right to say those words to her. “Are you OK?” “Of course. Why wouldn’t I be? If you’re worrying about what they said to me, just calm down. I didn’t take it personally. I’ve been called worse than a bimbo, and I’m still standing with my head held up high. So don’t worry about me. I should be the one worrying about you.” “Why would you worry about me?” “Hello? Are you forgetting what I’m here for?” “Oh, yeah. I remember.” A waiter approached John and handed him a package. “This came in for you, Mr. Black.” “Who sent this?” “There was no name of the sender.” John looked at Marlena and then thanked the waiter. He placed the package at the bar table, sat beside Marlena and then stared at the package. “Do you think this came from him/her?” “Absolutely. Don’t open it until we get home. He’s here and he’s trying to gauge some reaction from you. He wanted you to get scared.” “What if he has a gun and is now pointing that gun at me?” “He won’t do something drastic. Not in a public gathering that would cause panic. He wanted you to be scared by him. He wanted you to know that he holds your life. I suggest that you be cool. Tell Victor that we’re leaving.” “OK” he said as he left Marlena.

He was smiling. John Black was nervous and he seemed like he didn’t know what he was going to do. he was loving this game of cat and mouse – of course he was the cat and John Black was his mouse. And there was this Serena, that beautiful woman, who was Black’s new flavor of the month. He vowed that he would have her, and he always do what he promise.

John and Marlena were at his apartment. They immediately opened the package that he received earlier. “You ready?” she asked. He just nodded and then Marlena opened the elegantly wrapped package. Inside it were a single red rose and a note that says CONGRATULATIONS! MAY YOU AND YOUR FUTURE BRIDE LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER. JUST REMEMBER BLACK, ONCE YOU’RE OUT OF THIS WORLD, I’LL MAKE HER MINE! “He was there! He heard my proposal! And now, he’s including you to his list. I’m very sorry Ms. Evans.” “Hey, no need for apology. I’m used to this, it’s part of my job.” “Part of your job? To get your life on the line is part of your job?! You, risking your own precious life for someone you hardly know? That’s a part of your job?” John retorted, somewhat irritated to what Marlena had said. “Mr. Black, being a crime fighter means putting your life on the line, risking your life for other people’s safety. And I’m ready to do that and I accepted that duty. Now, if you are going to be emotional, I suggest that we call this whole thing off, let that bastard get to you and then have him kill you.” She said firmly. John was stunned to what she had said. She was right, she knew what she was doing and John had no right to question that decision. He was just so worried about her safety. And now, because of him, she was included in this game where his life was the one at stake. “I’m sorry, Marlena. I didn’t mean to undermine your profession. I just don’t want someone else to get in the middle of my fight.” “Mr. Black, the moment you decided that you needed a bodyguard, you start trusting that person who will be protecting you. And I assure you, I do my job efficiently. And didn’t I promise you that I will do my very best to get this man? I never break my promises, Mr. Black.” John looked at her, shyly. “I believe in you. So what’s our agenda for tomorrow?” he asked.

Back at Victor Kiriakis’ party, the man was sitting at the bar, scanning for any signs of John Black. He knew that Black got the package that he sent and he would have loved to see him sweat out of his pants. “Can I get you anything, sir?” the bartender asked. “Double scotch on the rocks,” he said. Then a woman, whom he saw talking with Black’s woman earlier, joined him at the bar. Kate sat on the stool next to the man and then eyed him. “I have never seen you here before. Are you a tourist?” she asked. The man looked at her, eyeing her. “You could say that.” The bartender returned with his drink and then asked Kate what she’s having. “I’d like to have a martini. I’m Kate Roberts.” “I’m Alex North.” “So you are new here. What made you go in this boring town of Salem, hmm?” “I’m a businessman and I am looking for something to invest in. And then I met Victor Kiriakis, he suggested a few companies that is a great to have an investment and then the rest is history.” “Victor is great when it comes to investing. He’s one of the few people who own almost all of the business establishments here in Salem. And then there’s John Black…” “John Black? I always hear that name wherever I go. What is he? Is he some kind of a politician or something?” he inquired, slightly playing dumb about who John Black is. Kate looked at him. “What? You don’t know who John Black is?!” “I have no idea.” “Well, John Black is the richest man in whole of Salem. The most eligible bachelor in America. And the most handsome man in the world. He’s in every cover of business magazines. He’s everything a woman would want!” “Why do you know him this much?” “Because I’m his girlfriend.” “But he announced that he will be getting married to this Serena woman and not with you.” That made Kate’s expression sour. She didn’t want to hear that name again. “You know that woman is just a diversion for John. He just wanted to experiment what being married would feel like. And then, when he’s bored with her, he’ll dump her and begged me to accept him again. You know, John and I really have this special thing. We are good together. We make each other happy. He completes me and I definitely completes him.” Alex knew that what this woman was talking about was not true. “Then why aren’t you with him?” “Because I broke up with him. I needed some time to think about our relationship. He’s a bit possessive of me. He doesn’t want to share me with anybody, not even my friends or my family.” Alex smiled and raised his glass to Kate. He already found his partner in bringing John Black down. “Well it seems to me that he’s pretty serious with her. With a woman like that, I think every man would stick to a marriage.” “What are you trying to tell me, Mr. North?” “What I’m trying to tell you is that we help each other.” “Help? How?” “Well, you seem to really like that Black guy, and I’m kinda drawn to that Serena girl. You want Black all to yourself and I want Serena all to myself. Get the idea?” he asked. Kate thought for a moment and then smiled at Alex. “You got yourself a partner Mr. North.” They shook hands. “I think it’s time for us to call each other by our first names…” he smiled and then they toasted.

Marlena woke up with a slight headache from last night’s party. She was not used to staying so late and the headache was the proof of that. She went to the bathroom to take a bath and to prepare for what the day will going to offer. She was up all night trying to find a way to apprehend this guy who is after John Black. She promised him that she would use all her powers just to take this man down. After 20 minutes in the bathroom, she emerged wearing her terry cloth robe and a towel wrapped around her head. She heard her bell ringing so she answered it. It could be either Commander Carver or just Roman. She was not prepared to see who was on the other side of her door. “Good morning! I hope I’m not too early!” he asked, staring at Marlena, trying hard to suppress his laughter. “What are you laughing at?” she asked. “You look like a 5 year old kid dressed as an Easter bunny. Here I brought breakfast! Aren’t you going to ask me in?” “Come in, Mr. Black.” John came in and put the bags on her dining table. Marlena just stared at him, pulled the towel off her head and then went to her bedroom to change into something other than the bathrobe. While Marlena was in her bedroom, John looked around her pad. There were pictures standing on the mantle. Pictures of Marlena, her twin, and her parents. John took one frame and stared at it. It was a picture of Marlena during her high school days, her prom night. She was wearing a black halter gown that clung to all of her curves. She looked exquisite. He replaced the frame to where he got it and then he sat on her couch. He was mesmerized by all the plaques that were hanging on her wall. She really was smart and beautiful, in fact she could pass off as a model. He stood up again and looked around. He found her den, her kitchen, and her workout room. There was a punching bag hanging from the ceiling and her gloves with it, so he wore the gloves and threw a few punches. He could not believe that this beautiful woman do boxing. There were also set of weights on a corner, a threadmill, a yoga mat, a stationary bicycle and then on one corner was a neat wooden table. He was intrigued by that table so he went there. He found her collection of guns – from .9mm caliber handgun to sniper gun. Her collection was placed on the table guarded by glass and the sniper guns were hanging on her wall. Marlena found him looking at her ‘babies’. “You like them?” she asked. John was startled, so he jumped a little. “Yeah. They are beautiful.” Marlena went to him, and then opened the table and took one of her guns. “Yeah. These are my babies. Like you, I’m also a collector – you collect women, I collect guns.” “I don’t collect women,” he answered. “if you say so, who am I to argue?” they both fell silent, and then John decided to break the silence. “So, you know how to use them all?” “Yeah! I got the training. What I love to use during my shooting practice is this one,” she said as she retrieved the glock 26. “Hey, you want to come with me?” “Where?” “To my shooting practice. I can teach you the art of shooting.” “Sure. I’m in! just lead the way!” “Come on!” they left her apartment and went to Salem Police Department station.

At the Salem Police Department, Marlena and John were greeted by her co-workers. “Hey, there Evans. Why aren’t you wearing your gown?” Officer Bo Brady asked. “I couldn’t practice my shooting if I’m wearing a gown.” She replied. “Brady told the guys that you looked hot and sexy last night. Is that true?” “Well, why don’t you ask Brady about the details. Is Commander Carver in his office?” “Yeah.” Marlena grabbed John’s hand and they both walked towards Abe’s office. “Hey, Mar, who’s the guy? Boyfriend?” Hope asked. “No, I’m working for him.” “Wait, aren’t you John Black of Basic Black Designs?” John just nodded. “Way to go Mar!” “It’s not what you think Hope. I’m Mr. Black’s bodyguard.” “Oh, I see. How’s working with her, Mr. Black?” Hope asked John. “Hey, what’s that supposed to mean?” Marlena asked Hope, riding with her jokes. “Nothing. Just one advice Mr. Black, don’t get on her bad side.” “OK,” John answered. “John, I’ll leave you with Hope for a minute. I have to report to Commander Carver and then we’re off to the shooting room. Hope, can you entertain him for a while?” “Sure Mar. Mr. Black and I will have the time of our life. Just go ahead, Commander Carver’s waiting for you.” “I’ll be right back.” Marlena said to John as she disappeared to Abe’s office. “So, you want some coffee, Mr. Black?” “Sure” Hope got another cup of coffee and then gave it to John. She sat opposite him and asked him so many questions. “SO, what can you say about Evans?” “Well, she’s one heck of a woman. I thought she was a guy, because of the way Carver and Brady kept talking about her. And then when she arrived in my office announcing that she was my bodyguard, I knew that I was safe.” “Yeah, you’re in good hands. She’s quite a woman, too.” “Yeah,” John said. “So, you attracted to her?” “Who wouldn’t be?” “Yeah, you’re right. who wouldn’t be drawn to that kind of woman – tall, blonde, smart, independent, gorgeous…” “and has a pair of long tanned legs…” John said unconsciously. Hope heard what he said and she just smiled at him. “Just go for it buddy. I’ll tell you this. She seems to have this rock hard exterior, but if you dig deep inside of her, she’s a real softy. Just call me if you need anything or if you want to know anything and everything about her, OK?” John nodded. “You know her that well?” “Let’s say that we practically grew up together. We were friends since our mothers gave birth to us! We’re like sisters. Her secret is my secret, and my secret is MY secret!” they both laugh. That was how Marlena found them – laughing. “What’s the fun all about?” she asked. “Well, I’m just telling John about the cheering competition we had when we were in high school. Still remember that?” Hope asked. “Cheering competition? I don’t remember joining any cheering squad.” Marlena denied. “Oh come on! I know you remember it all too well because you are the cheering leader. And the best cheer leader, I might add,” Hope boasted to John. “Oh really? Wanna show me some of your routine, Agent Evans?” John teased Marlena, who was now turning red all over. Marlena looked at him as if she wanted to strangle him. John knew what that look meant so he raised his hands and backed down from teasing Marlena. “If you 2 are through with talking about cheering and my participation, I have to borrow this man because I promised to take him in my practice shoot.” Marlena said. “Oh, we are through. Mr. Black already learned a lot about you.” Hope said as she walked towards her desk. Marlena looked at John suspiciously. “What did she tell you about me?” she interrogated John like a criminal. “Nothing! Really! She just told me that you 2 were friends since your mothers gave birth to both of you. And that she knows your secret, that’s all!” Marlena seemed contented with his answer, and then handed him an earphone and an eyeglass. “You ready to shoot?” John nodded and followed Marlena to the shooting room.

When they entered the shooting room, John was amazed to the collection of guns she has on her locker. “Wow! Are you sure you’re not Rambo?” Marlena just smiled at him as she was putting the targets in place. “Hey, can you introduce me to your collection?” Marlena walked to him and then she held a gun at a time and then telling him the names. “John Black, this is glock 26, a Derringer DA .38 caliber 9mm, a jackhammer MK3A1, a corner shot, an MP7, a Heckler and Koch’s HK P2000, a Steyr Aug A3 with grenade launcher, and a VSSK Vychlop exhaust silenced sniper rifle. Guns, this is John Black. So, there, I already introduced you to them. You want to try to shoot?” she asked. John just stared at her. How could a woman know so much about guns? “Hey? I said do you want to try to shoot?” “No, I’ll just watch you.” He said, smiling at her. “OK. Put the earphone on. It will be a bit noisy.” She said. She put her eyeglass and earphone on, put ammunition in her .9mm, took her stance, pressed the button and the timer, and she was shooting. John was amazed to see how good she was. All her shot was at the bull’s eye. A thought came into him – he shouldn’t make her angry or else he’d end up like the target.

After that shooting practice, John asked Marlena for a lunch. John said that he had a reservation at the Penthouse Grille, but Marlena had different plan. Instead, she told John to cancel his reservation and ask him to go with her at Salem Place, where they would sample the hotdogs there. “Come on, Black. We’re not dressed for Penthouse Grille anyway. Let’s go!” Marlena encouraged John. “Just a minute. I have to cancel the reservation or else, Maggie won’t be doing business with me. May I use your phone?” “Sure go ahead. I’ll just grab some things that we need.” John dialed Penthouse Grille’s number and was greeted by Maggie. “Penthouse Grille, this is Maggie speaking.” “Hey Maggie, it’s John. I’m afraid I have to cancel the reservation I made for today.” “Why?” “My fiance is taking me somewhere.” “I see.” “I hope it’s OK with you. But keep the reservation for tonight, will you?” “Planning something romantic with your fiance?” “Yeah.” “OK. I’ll personally take care of everything. Enjoy your day. I couldn’t wait to meet your fiance.” “You will, tonight. Bye and thanks again.” He hung up the phone and was met with Marlena’s helmet. “Put this on.” Marlena said. John was surprised to see her in a windbraker and a helmet in her hand. “What? Never seen a helmet before? OK, we’re going to ride my bike. Don’t worry I’m a good driver. Let’s go.” They left the station. Marlena asked John to put his arms on her waist so that he won’t fall off his seat. “OK, Salem Place’s hotdogs, here we come,” Marlena said as she closed her helmet and started her motorcycle.

Kate Roberts was having her coffee in the Java Café. She was plotting something in order to have John back again. She could deal with that Serena woman. She knew what type of woman that Serena was – money-grabbing, manipulative, social climber type. And Kate knew what to do with those types of women. She just had to get John back. And fast! She took as seat near the window and saw a motorcycle being parked next to her mustang convertible. She was intrigued about the riders. Maybe they were just new to this town and were just passing by, trying to get some breakfast. She almost choked with her coffee when the man removed his helmet. It was John…and the other rider was Serena! What in the world is John doing with that woman, and in that motorcycle?! It was so unlike John. Kate wanted to talk to John, so she hurried outside and met them. “Hey John. What are you doing here looking like that?” Kate asked. “What’s wrong with my look?” “Nothing. I guess I’m not really used to seeing you out of your corporate clothes…and in a motorcycle! What on earth are you thinking?” “Kate, even superman dressed like this! And I’m having a breakfast with my fiance, Serena. I promised to take her here for breakfast.” John said as he grabbed Marlena’s hand and giving it a little squeeze, signaling Marlena that their charade was starting. Marlena smiled at John and then at Kate, who was looking at Marlena with all the disdain in the world. “I told him that it’s not really a big deal to keep his promise to me. We could always have a good breakfast at home but you know John, he won’t take no for an answer and he keeps his promises.” “Yeah. He’s a man of his words. That’s what I liked about him. So, you said you 2 are going to get some breakfast. Why don’t you 2 join me? I’m having some coffee at the Java Café.” John looked at Marlena, who just shrugged her shoulders. “I’m sorry Kate but I promised her some hotdogs for breakfast. We’re just gonna grab some at the hotdog stand and take a walk while we’re eating.” Kate hated hotdogs! But she must not let John be with that tramp! “Well, is it possible if I could tag along with you 2? You know how I hated eating alone, John.” Kate tried her best to make John consider her tagging along. “Sure Kate. You could come with us,” Marlena said, surprising John. “OK, thanks!”

After they got their own hotdogs, they were seated in a table at Java Café. John was sitting beside Marlena and Kate was sitting across them. John was trying to get Marlena to bite on his hotdog, which made Kate uncomfortable. “So, how’d you two meet?” Kate asked. John was a bit surprised. He didn’t expect that question. He looked at Marlena and she gave him a smile, letting him know that she all got that part covered. “Well, it’s not really a fairytale kind of romance between John and I. We met in a mutual friend’s party. I was sitting on the bar, with my drink and then he just introduced himself to me, and the rest is history!” “When was that? You see, John had his share of girlfriends and we just broke up a couple of months ago, and I’m just wondering when you 2 met.” “Actually, that party took place just right after you 2 broke up. John told me so much about you and his girlfriends, and I understand him. And then 2 weeks after, he popped me the question.” “And I am the luckiest man in the world for I am going to marry this wonderful woman!” John said as he kissed her hands. A waiter came over their table, “Mr. Black, there’s a phone call for you.” “Call for me?” John said. He excused himself and got that call. “John Black here.” “You better watch your back, Johnny boy! You’ll never know what’s going to come to yah.” “Who is this?” “You don’t need to know my name John. You already know who I am. You better take good care of your fiance too! If I were you I will always keep her on my side!” Then the phone went dead. “Hello? Hello?” John replaced the receiver and went back to Marlena and Kate. Marlena noticed John’s uneasiness. “John, something wrong?” “No. Everything’s fine. Ummm, we better get back home. I need to get to the office and you darling need to set up our wedding, I remember that you have an appointment with the wedding planner.” Marlena knew something was wrong. “Oh yes, I remember. I promised Claire that I won’t be late.” They both stood up leaving Kate sitting alone. “Well Kate, it was nice having breakfast with you but we really have to go.” “So soon?” “Yeah. I’m sorry. But we could always do this some other time.” “Yeah, some other time.” “So, bye.” “Bye Kate,” Marlena said as she was led by John outside the coffee shop. “Hey, wanna tell me about it?” Marlena asked John. “The phone call. It was HIM.” Marlena was surprised. “Put this on and jump in.” She said as she started her motorcycle.

They arrived at the police station and talked with Abe Carver. “I’m wondering how’d he know where you are,” Marlena thought. “Maybe he was in the neighborhood and saw John enter the coffee shop and decided to call him,” Abe rationalized. “Yeah that must be it,” Marlena said. “What did he tell you?” she asked. “He told me to watch my back. I asked who he was and he told me that I knew who he is. And I can’t remember someone with that voice,” he said. “Well, since we know that he’s tracking you, we should always be aware and prepared. We never know when he’ll strike again,” Abe said as he left his office and John and Marlena. Marlena looked at John who was sitting on the couch with his head on his hands. “You OK?” “No, I’m not. Do you know what he told me next?” he looked at Marlena. “He told me to protect you. He’s onto you too! God damn it! Who is this psycho? I swear I will make him pay when I find out who he is.”
